This document outlines 9 parameters to describe the basin of a channel, rivulet, or drain including the name, catchment area, elevations, length, fall, time of concentration, critical rainfall intensity, and anticipated design discharge. The parameters are used to characterize hydrological features for drainage design.

1. Name of channel/rivulet/drain carrying the discharge. 2. Catchment area (A) in hectare draining through the channel/ rivulet/drain. 3. R.L of the remotest or critical point from Topo-sheet in meter. 4. R.L at the outlet of channel/ rivulet/drain from Topo-sheet in meter. 5. Distance/ length of the channel/ rivulet/ drain from the remotest or critical point up to the outlet in kilometer from topo-sheet or from actual survey. 6. Total fall in level from the critical point to the outlet of channel/rivulet/drain in meter.
7. Time of Concentration, Tc = 0.885 L3 0.385
in hours. H 8. Critical intensity of rainfall (Ic)
IC = 2 IO ( TC + 1) Where, Io = one hour heaviest rainfall from I.M.D data.
9. Anticipated design discharge (Q)
Q = 0.028 P . Ic . A m3 / sec. Where, P = catchment characteristics A = Catchment area in hectares.
