Activity:

This activity is an adaptation of the parable of the two debtors, representing the need for the
Atonement. One adult will be the owner of the money, other adult will be the debtor and one
kid will be the debtors friend.
The owner of the money will give his friend money to buy a car, and his friend will promise
him to give it back in 2 months. Two months passed and the debtor dont have the money to
pay off his debt. His friend come over and tell him he needs the money back. His friend says
that he wont have the money soon, due to some problems, so the owner calls the police to
send his friend to jail because of his debt. In that moment, a debtors friend appears, one
friend that really love him and doesnt want him to suffer in jail, and pay off the debt for him.
The debtors friend say to the debtor that now he owes him the money and that he will have
to give it back anyways, but under different conditions.

This activity is a representation of our life. We have a big debt to pay off for our sins, and we
cant do it alone. There has to be justice, but we dont have the means to pay for everything,
so our friend, Jesus Christ, came to the world and suffered for our sins, so we dont have to
suffer, and now we have a debt with Him, and He had set the new requirements to pay it
back.

Lesson:

What did you understand about the activity? What did Jesus do for us?

Alma 11:40-41

40 And he shall come into the world to redeem his people; and he shall take upon him the
transgressions of those who believe on his name; and these are they that shall have eternal
life, and salvation cometh to none else.
41 Therefore the wicked remain as though there had been no redemption made, except it
be the loosing of the bands of death; for behold, the day cometh that all shall rise from the
dead and stand before God, and be judged according to their works.

What are the things that the Savior requires from us?

We have a very specific one here:

D&C 19:15-19

15 Therefore I command you to repentrepent, lest I smite you by the rod of my mouth, and
by my wrath, and by my anger, and your sufferings be sorehow sore you know not, how
exquisite you know not, yea, how hard to bear you know not.
16 For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they
would repent;
17 But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I;
18 Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of
pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spiritand would that I might
not drink the bitter cup, and shrink
19 Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the
children of men.

God has provided a way that we can be saved, and thats through the Atonement of
Jesus Christ.

Elder Earl C. Tingey, from the Seventy, said this on April 2006 General Conference:

Through the infinite Atonement, God has provided a means whereby we can both
overcome our sins and become completely clean again. This is made possible by the eternal
law of mercy. Mercy satisfies the claims of justice through our repentance and the power of
the Atonement. Without the power of the Atonement and our complete repentance, we are
subject to the law of justice.

I testify that this is true. Theres no other way we can be saved unless we turn to our Savior
Jesus Christ and obey His law. I know that we can do that and, if we do our best, we can pay
off our whole debt and be clean to come back to His presence.
