Introduction

The following paper is going to give an explanation on the topic

modern technology and society in a couple of lines. The
introduction part will contain a few words about the technology
separately and the society as a unit functioning by itself, and then
the implementation of the first in the second and their interference.
Technology and its usefulness are very clear and cannot be denied.
Technology should provide efficiency, utility, quality of use, etc.,
and it pretty much succeeds, especially now. Although its golden
age was the 20th century, when its development was noticed a lot ,
and we met the term technological revolution.
Society as a unit, with people as its main body is very flexible and
adaptable to the conditions of development with intellect as its
driving force. Still society is aided with different means which
further more induce the development.
The society knows of fast development but found out the
technology as a booster to this. Noticeable innovations happened
when technology found its place in medicine, education, industry,
communication and other spheres of occupation.

Advantages and disadvantages of
technology

The evolution of technology has dramatically changed society. An

endless number of people all over the world use and benefit from
modern technology, and the tremendous opportunities it provides
play a significant role in almost all fields of human life.
Technology has simplified the access to many necessary tools
people need in education, industry, medicine, communication,
transportation, and so on. However, excessive usage of technology
has its drawbacks as well. Though, in most cases, the speed of
fulfilling tasks accelerates with the help of technology, many
people do not realize that technology negatively affects society,
and its considerable development has complicated life in a number
of different ways.

Advantages:
Great Discoveries In All Industries
Technology advances show people a more efficient way to do
things, and these processes get results. For example, education has
been greatly advanced by the technological advances of computers.
Students are able to learn on a global scale without ever leaving
their classrooms. Agricultural processes that once required dozens
upon dozens of human workers can now be automated, thanks to
advances in technology, which means cost-efficiency for farmers.
Medical discoveries occur at a much more rapid rate, thanks to
machines and computers that aid in the research process and allow
for more intense educational research into medical matters.
Cost Efficiency
Cost efficiency is an advantage in some ways and a disadvantage
in others. As technology improves on existing processes and
showcases new ways to accomplish tasks, machines are able to
produce the same -- if not more -- output than humans in certain
industries. This results in cost savings for business owners,
allowing them to invest in growth in other areas of the business,
which contributes on a positive level to the economy as a whole.

4
One important way in which information technology is affecting
work is by reducing the importance of distance. In many industries,
the geographic distribution of work is changing significantly. For
instance, some software firms have found that they can overcome
the tight local market for software engineers by sending projects to
India or other nations where the wages are much lower.
Furthermore, such arrangements can take advantage of the time
differences so that critical projects can be worked on nearly around
the clock.
Computers and communication technologies also promote more
market-like forms of production and distribution. An infrastructure
of computing and communication technology, providing 24-hour
access at low cost to almost any kind of price and product
information desired by buyers, will reduce the informational
barriers to efficient market operation. This infrastructure might
also provide the means for effecting real-time transactions and
make intermediaries such as sales clerks, stock brokers and travel
agents, whose function is to provide an essential information link
between buyers and sellers, redundant.
The impact of information technology on the firms cost structure
can be best illustrated on the electronic commerce example. The
key areas of cost reduction when carrying out a sale via electronic
commerce rather than in a traditional store involve physical
establishment, order placement and execution, customer support,
staffing, inventory carrying, and distribution. Although setting up
and maintaining an e-commerce web site might be expensive, it is
certainly less expensive to maintain such a storefront than a
physical one because it is always open, can be accessed by millions
around the globe, and has few variable costs, so that it can scale up
to meet the demand. By maintaining one store instead of several,
duplicate inventory costs are eliminated. In addition, e-commerce
is very effective at reducing the costs of attracting new customers,
because advertising is typically cheaper than for other media and
more targeted. Moreover, the electronic interface allows e-
commerce merchants to check that an order is internally consistent
and that the order, receipt, and invoice match.

5
Disadvantages:

Dependency
The more advanced society becomes technologically, the more
people begin to depend on computers and other forms of
technology for everyday existence. This means that when a
machine breaks or a computer crashes, humans become almost
disabled until the problem is resolved. This kind of dependency on
technology puts people at a distinct disadvantage, because they
become less self-reliant.
Less Value In Human Workers
At the same time, human workers retain less value, which is a
disadvantage of technological advances. Because machines
automate processes and do the work of 10 people with one
computer, companies find they don't need to employ as many
people to get the job done. As machines and computers become
even more advanced and efficient, this will continue to be a
growing disadvantage of technology and an issue that has a global
impact.

Excessive usage of electronic gadgets is weakening peoples

memory. Of course, the substantial development of technology has
its positive effects on education as classes have become more
dynamic between teachers and students with technology.
Furthermore, students nowadays can communicate with their
teachers and learn all the essential information via the Internet.
However, students of the new generations seem to have several
significant problems either with writing complete sentences or
spelling words because of the frequent usage of text messages.
Todays students are also better at remembering where to look for
information rather than remembering the information itself.
Besides memory problems, technology usage can trigger serious
diseases as well.

6
Health problems caused by modern technology have evolved into
an important problem, especially among teenagers. Adolescents
pay a high price for depending on social networks, computer
games and TV, especially when it comes to sleep. The Internet has
become like the air to breath, the water to drink for children (Rich,
par.7). This dependence seems to be the cause of several serious
health problems such as sleep deprivation, vision problems,
obesity, cancer and so on (Technology and Health Problems, par.1).
Addiction to technology has also made people lazy; that is, people
have begun to pay less attention to walking and more to sitting,
listening, and playing games.

7
Conclusion

As seen above, the technology has significant utilities and black

sides as well, and it is not limited to humans only according to a
research: Until recently, it was believed that the development of
technology was restricted only to human beings, but 21st century
scientific studies indicate that other primates and
certain dolphin communities have developed simple tools and
passed their knowledge to other generations. Still, as ones who
dominate over technology we should tend to put its development in
the right direction.
One thing is certain, modern society found too much comfort in
technology and its not ready to give up on it, not even any sooner,
even if the technology starts doing harm to us.
Are we going to play blind and ignorant, and act like we are okay
with where the consequences of technology lead is yet to be seen.
