Mitochondria

By:Cyrene,Fiona,and Sia
Information
Mitochondria are the energy factories of the cells. The energy currency for
the work that animals must do is the energy-rich molecule adenosine
triphosphate (ATP). The ATP is produced in the mitochondria using energy
stored in food. A typical animal cell has about 1000 to 2000 mitochondria. So
the cell will have many structures that are capable of producing a high amount
of available energy. This ATP production by the mitochondria is done by the
process of respiration, which is the use of oxygen in a process which generates
energy. Dead cells no longer produce ATP, but all cells have the same structure.
Some cells have more mitochondria than others. Your fat cells have many
mitochondria because they store a lot of energy. Muscle cells have many
mitochondria, which allows them to respond quickly to the need for doing
work. The function of mitochondria is to produce the energy currency cell
Compares and Contrast
Compares
.

Mitochondria is like the sun, glucose and atp (andonese triphosphate)

because they produce energy just like mitochondria.

Contrast

Mitochondria is different than chloroplast, the digestive system and the

process of photosynthesis because chloroplast converts energy into food
and mitochondria makes energy.
What is Mitochondria made of
A mitochondria contains outer and inner membranes. These are made of
phospholipid double layers and proteins. The two membranes have different
properties. Because of this double-membraned organization, there are five distinct
compartments within the mitochondrion.Mitochondria are made up of over 1,000
proteins, but only about a dozen of these are encoded in the single, circular piece
of DNA that resides in the mitochondria (known as mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA
for short). The rest of the proteins that make up the mitochondria are actually
encoded in the nuclear genome - the genetic material that sits inside the cell's
nucleus.
