onDiwali.

Firecrackersreleasepollutantssuchassulphurdioxide,carbondioxide,carbonmonoxideetcintheair,whichcauses
ailmentslikeasthmaandbronchitis.Notonlytheelderlyandpatientsinhospitals,butanimalsandbirdsarealso
affectedduetoairandnoisepollution.

ThoughvariousschoolsandorganisationsorganiseddemonstrationspriortoDiwalitoeducatethemassesona
pollutionfreefestival,theireffortshavebeenfutile.

Theenvironmentandpollutiondepartmentsalsogotnoticespublishedinvariousnewspapersaboutregulationsto
curbnoiseandairpollution,buttonoavail.

AsperdirectionsoftheSupremeCourt,burstingofsoundemittingfirecrackershasbeenbannedbetween10pmto
6am.However,shockingly,thedirectionwasopenlyfloutedasfirecrackerswereburstthroughoutthenight.

Thiscausedexcessivenoiseandairpollution.Onthereceivingendofthismenaceweretheelderlyandpatientsin
hospitals.

PostDiwali,theroadsarelitteredwiththeremnantsoffireworks.Thedelugeofgarbage,includingemptybottlesused
tolightoffrockets,oneverynookandcornerofthecityisaworryingsign.

Suphurdioxidelevelshavebeenfoundwithintheprescribedstandardof80g/m3atalllocations.Nitrogendioxide(NO2)concentration
alsoremainedonthelowerside,rangingbetween26and87g/m3ascomparedto44and85g/m3in2012.
TheNO2levelsarewithintheprescribedstandardof80g/m3atsixlocationsexceptShahzadaBaghwhichistheonlylocationwhereit
hasgoneupfrom64g/m3to87g/m3.

HoliisareligiousspringfestivalcelebratedbyHindus.Holiisalsoknownasfestivalofcolors.Itis
primarily
observedinIndiaandNepal.ThemostcelebratedHoliisintheBrajregion,inlocationsconnectedtotheLord
Krishna:Mathura,Vrindavan,Nandagaon,andBarsana.Bonfiresarelitontheeveofthefestival,alsoknownas
HolikaDahan(burningofHolika)orChhotiHoli(littleHoli)afterwhichprayersareoffered.Holiis
celebratedattheendofthewinterseasononthelastfullmoondayofthelunarmonthPhalguna
(February/March).
Inmostareas,Holilastsabouttwodays.Everyyear,thousandsofHindusparticipateinthefestivalHoli.

Such a colourful Holi was soon overtaken by commercialisation, which started

providing exotic colours, but in a highly dangerous form. Toxic chemicals are
being used to get the desired colours. They do not wash away easily, get mixed in
drains and sewage systems and pollute water bodies and the soil. The festival,
which used to be a healthy revelry of mankind is no longer an exuberant, healthy
event.

being.He/Shefeelsirritatedandangryandswearsthosewhoplaytheplaymusicbarbarically!Musicatthatpoint
becomesanobjectofhatred!

Afteradayshardwork,IcametomyhousethedayafterDashamiandlaidinbed,justtryingtosleep....butIcould
not....Icouldn'tsleepasthenoiseandshoutingoftherevelersofDurgaPujagoingtotheriversideisdisturbingmy
hearingtolerance,irritatingmetothefullextentthatmyfaceturnedredlikeanappleandIamshoutingatthemlike
amadperson!!
