Description

The NX CAM Customization workbook contains additional activities that

incorporates the skills learned in customizing CAM.
These additional activities pertain to Libraries and Templates, Wizard
Builder, Hole Making and IS&V.
It is the intent of these activities to allow you to apply the skills taught in this
course. However, the time constraint of this course is a factor, at any point
when progress is not being made, ask for the help of your instructor.

Lesson

1 Libraries

In this section you will modify tool and part material libraries. You will also
enter feed and speed data to be used in generation of feedrates, spindle
speeds, depth of cut and stepover parameters.
Step 1: Create a new part file named ***_library_wb.

Step 2: Create a new material called unobtainium with the following

properties:
Library reference 9999
Code 9999
Name Unobtanium
Description Hard to get
Hardness 15150

Step 3: Create a new tool material.

Create a new tool material called Diamond with the following
properties:
Library reference TMCO_0700
Name Diamond
Description PCD Diamond

Step 4: Set the feed and speed parameters for the new tool and part
materials.
In the Machining Data Manager set the filters and create the new
entry. Set the Machining Data filters using your new part and
tool materials.
You will set the parameters for a 2.00 diameter tool.
Diameter 2.00
Length 4.00
Cut Depth 0.350
Stepover 1.600
SFM 750
Spindle Speed 1432

Feed Per Tooth .005
Cut Feed Rate 14.32
Number of Flutes 2

Step 5: Test your new feed/speed entry in NX. Create a block and use face
mill to machine it.

2 Wizard Builder
2

In this section of the workbook, you will create a new Manufacturing Wizard,
the wizard will be used to create Face Mill Area operations. You will test the
wizard on an existing part.
Step 1: Open the Process Studio Author.

Step 2: Create a new Manufacturing Wizard. .

Step 3: Create the following steps to complete the wizard;

Welcome This step starts the wizard and issues messages to
the programmer.

Create Object This step will specify the type and subtype of
operation. The parent groups will also be selected in this step.

Customizable Item This step will be used to select the

Geometry Cut Area Body/Face

Generate This step will generate the operation.

Finish This step will finish the wizard.

Step 4: Customize the interface with messages and graphics as you see fit.
You can also link help files as you did in the lesson.

Step 5: Test the wizard in NX, you can use an existing part file or create a
new part.
Remember that you have not created parent groups so you should
create tools and select geometry in the parent groups before testing
the wizard.

3 Templates

In this section of the workbook, you will create a template part file and place 3
tools and operations within it.
Step 1: Create a new part file.

Step 2: Create a carrier with 30 pockets.

Step 3: Create at least 12 tools and place them in the pockets. Use the
Holder functionality to define the tool up to the gage line.

Step 4: Create at least 4 operations that you would commonly use and
customize them as you see fit.

Step 5: Set the template and load with parent options appropriately.

Step 6: Save the part file and then test it.

4 Hole Making

In this section of the workbook, you will use the HOLE_MAKING subtype to
generate operations necessary for the machining of the four counterbored
holes.

Step 1: Open the part dryer_mfg_asmb.

Step 2: Change to the Geometry View in the Operation Navigator, edit

the WORKPIECE group object and change the part material to
UNOBTAINIUM.

Step 3: Create the geometry information required to place the four

counterbored holes in the core of the hair dryer. Tools are selected
automatically by the Hole Making subtype.

Step 4: Select the Program View of the Operation Navigator and move the
newly generated Hole Making operations into the program parent
group below the CM-INITIAL-ROUGH and SIDE-1-FINISHING
programs.

Step 5: Verify the tool path. Use the verify option to validate the tool paths
which you have just created.

Step 6: Save your part file.

5 IS&V

In this section of the workbook, you will use a pre-built machine for
simulation purposes.

Step 1: Open the part ama_deep_mold_mfg.

Step 2: Choose the SIM010101_001_IN machine from the sample directory

for simulation purposes.

Step 3: Mount the manufacturing assembly to the machine tool. You will
mount the part beside the vise on the table the vise isnt used in
this setup.

Step 4: Simulate the machining process.

You will need to add the part and blank geometry to the setup
in the Machine Tool Navigator.
