To provide schools and communities with support, technical assistance and professional
development that model the coordinated school health approach.
Coordinated School Health Program
A CSHP model consists of eight interactive components that schools can use as a resource to maintain the well-
being of all people in the community.

Team Nutrition
Team Nutrition is an initiative of the USDA Food and Nutrition Services to support the Child Nutrition Programs
through training and technical assistance.

HealthierUS School Challenge

HUSSC is a voluntary certification initiative recognizing outstanding schools participating in SBP & NSLP that have
created healthier school environments.

School Local Wellness Policy

Local wellness policies are an important tool for parents, school districts and the community in promoting student
wellness.

School Health Services

These services are designed to prevent and control communicable disease and other health problems, provide
emergency care for illness or injury and promote a safe school environment.

Physical Education
Physical education is unique to the school curriculum as it is the only program that provides students with
opportunities to learn motor skills, develop fitness, and gain understanding about the importance of physical activity.

Health Education
Health education is any combination of learning experiences designed to help individuals and communities improve
their health, by increasing their knowledge or influencing their attitudes.

School Health Advisory Councils (SHAC)

A (SHAC) is a group of individuals who represent both the school and the community to provide advice to the school
system on aspects of school health policies and programs.
