February 20 Monday -
Presidents Day. No school
Make sure to check out the
CDA website It has
important news about our
school.
We will focus on characters in our books, historical facts
and imaginary details. We will make connections between
texts, to ourselves, and to the world. We will dig deep into
comprehension through inference, so we can understand
better why the book or story is classified as historical
fiction. In writers workshop this week we focus on our
weekly reading response letters.
Math
Our unit on fractions is in full swing. We are developing
our sense of what fractions are, what they mean, and how
to represent them. This week we focus on halves and
fourths.
PE
Please be on time for morning exercises. It is part of
our weekly PE minutes, as mandated by the District.
We are out on the grass oval at 8:15. Please have
your children in line by 8:12, the first bell. Thank
you.

Book Buddies

Last week we learned about

the Lunar New Year, and we
helped our book buddies
count to 10 in Chinese. We
also looked at what the
animals are on the Chinese
zodiac.
Upcoming and Reminders
Thank you to those that have either sent in the school experience survey,
or have done it online. If you havent already done so, the deadline has been
extend until February 17. Please make sure to fill it out as it is important that
the school aim for 100% participation. Thank you for your support.22

Im Going to College. I have been allocated a large amount of

tickets to the UCLA v CAL gymnastics meet on Sunday, March 5 at
1:00 in Pauley Pavilion, on the UCLA campus. I consider this a
family field trip. An adult must come with their child, or
families can carpool, as long as an adult supervises the
children. I will be sending home a flyer with a tear-off
letting you know all of the details, asking how many tickets
you would like. It will be on a first come, first serve basis.
It is always fun to do an activity outside of the school, and I
look forward to having a very fun afternoon. GO BRUINS!!

The homework for this week is to complete the Valentine

compliments. They are due Friday. Read 30 minutes. Response
journal in library bag. (3 times per week.)

Thank you to everyone who sent in spelling pledge money. Our

class raised close to $800.00!! Also, thank you to the parent
volunteers who went with us to LACMA last week. They were
awesome!
