GROUP LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLANNING SHEET

Student Name: Helena Toolsiedas Course Code: ECS 2040

Age Group: Toddlers Date: February 9th, 2017

Learning Experience: Magnetic Alphabet Tracing

Programming Purpose:

Previously, I had done a playdough activity with alphabet cookie cutters. The toddlers were not very
interested in the letters as they were in the playdough therefore, I decided to do an activity based strictly
around the alphabet. The purpose of this is to help them learn to write and know the letters of the alphabet.

Objective:

Children will develop an understanding of how to write the letters of the alphabet by tracing it using the
magnetic letters.

Materials:

- Magnetized Letters A-Z

- Paper
- Pencils
Opening (Introduction)

After circle, lay out the letters on the table and one by one ask the toddlers to come to the table. Tell them
that today we are going to learn how to write the letters in the alphabet.

Ask them to choose a letter and model the activity by showing them how to trace the letter using the
magnetic pen. Then sing the ABCs so they know what they are about to do.

Body (Content)

1. Call each childs name to seat them at the table

2. Explain that we are going to learn how to write the alphabet
3. Sing the ABCs
4. Demonstrate how to use the magnetic tracing letters
5. Allow the toddlers to use the letters and see what they come up with
6. Acknowledge appropriate behavior by saying things such as I see that you are tracing the letter B
7. Ask questions such as what letter are you tracing? or is that letter an A?
8. Make the sounds of each letter to help them understand it better
9. At the end, get them to help write out the completed alphabet

Closing (Ending)

Sing the alphabet and when their letter comes up let them say it. Lastly, after writing out the full alphabet
say When I call your letter out come and put it away.

Transition

After putting away all of the letters, get them ready for lunch by changing their diapers, sanitizing the tables
and putting on their bibs.
