RFID Based Centralized Patients Monitoring

System And Tracking

INTRODUCTION:

In case of emergency and dangerous situations to alert the doctor immediately. For
in this project using a GSM based network for doctor to patient communication in the
hospital and even to communicate and indicate the status of the patient through SMS. This
way of communication is actually done with GSM network. Each patient will be given this
module where with the help of this module the patient health condition is monitored and if
there is any change in the condition of the health then it immediately sends that changed data
through GSM to the doctor or relatives to maintain the status of the patient.

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID is one member in the family of
Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technologies and is a fast and reliable
means of identifying objects. There are two main components: The Interrogator (RFID
Reader) which transmits and receives the signal and the Transponder (tag) that is attached to
the object. RFID leverages electromagnetic or electrostatic coupling in the radio frequency
portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to identify objects over a distance of potentially
several meters. While its origins can be traced back to 1940s its commercial applications
have started expanding significantly recently as a replacement or supplement to barcode
technology. RFID systems are employed to track shipments and manage supply-chains and to
automate toll collection on highways, and are being deployed for many new application areas
(e.g., passports, airline boarding passes, luggage tags, etc.). In this work, we experimentally
examine the patient details and track them in the case of an emergency in an indoor
environment. Our focus is on the people (patients) who do not have any assistance at home
particularly the oldies who are totally on bed. Our implementation highlights the monitoring
techniques in RFID technology. We have structured our paper in two sections. RFID system
for accessing the previous data of patient like his basic information.
Goals and Objectives:
Existing system has following limitations:
1. Database is stored manually on registers.
2. No automatic parameters monitoring through sensors.
3. No wireless connectivity.
4. Cannot inform automatically through GSM.

Intended Audiences or Beneficiaries:

This project is beneficial to hospital .In this project RFID is used .RFID (Radio
Frequency Identification) is an unique ID number. In case of emergency and
dangerous situations we have to alert the doctor immediately. Each patient will be
given this module and with the help of this module the patient health condition is
monitored and if there is any change in the condition of the health then it immediately
sends that changed data through GSM to the doctor or relatives to maintain the status
of the patient.

Services to be provided:

In this project any emergency in closed environment to the patient is provided with
assistance in short span of time.

1. TRANSFORMER:
12 v, 500 ma step down transformer converts 230 v ac supply into 12 V ac supply.

2. RECTIFIER & FILTER:

Rectifier converts 12 V ac supply into pulsating DC voltage further it is filtered by
capacitor input filter to remove ripple contents.

3. VOLTAGE REGULATOR(7805)
The microcontroller and associated circuitry requires 5 V supply. Battery output is fed
to the voltage regulators 7805 to obtain a 5 V DC output. Also LED indicators are
used for indicating these voltages.

4. TEMPERATURE & HEART BEAT SENSORS:

LM35 temperature sensor is used to monitor the patients body temperature &
heartbeat sensor module is used to measure heart beats.

5. CONTROLLER:
For controlling the whole system AT89S52 controller we are going to use.

6. RELAY :
Relay acts as switch. It is used to on-off the buzzer.

7. BUZZER:
Buzzer is used to alert to the other system .

8. LCD DISPLAY:
LCD 16*2 is used to display various alerts. It is used to display the output of
controller.
9. GSM:
We are going to use SIM900 from SIMCOM limited designed for global market,
Requirements are in application, such as smart phone, PDA phone and other mobile
device. The physical interface to the mobile application is made through a 60 pins board-
to-board connector, which provides all hardware interfaces between the module and
customers boards except the RF antenna interface. It is used for sending alert.

RFID SECTION:

1. RFID TAG

Fig. - Tag components

The tags are transponders that have an identifier of the object with which it is associated. The
tags typically consist of an antenna and an electronic microchip (Fig 1). The antenna is
responsible for making communication between the tag and the reader. There are two main
energy classifications of a tag. They can be passive, obtaining energy through the magnetic
field generated by readers through antennas, or they can be active, with a battery that
provides the energy required to perform processing and modulation of the signal.
2. RFID READER

Fig. 2 - RFID Reader with the built-in micro-controller

An RFID Reader (Fig 2) can read through most anything with the exception of conductive
materials like water and metal, but with modifications and positioning, even these can be
overcome. The RFID Reader emits a low-power radio wave field which is used to power up
the tag so as to pass on any information that is contained on the chip. In addition, readers can
be fitted with an additional interface that converts the radio waves returned from the tag into
a form that can then be passed on to another system, like a computer or any programmable
logic controller. Passive tags are generally smaller, lighter and less expensive than those that
are active and can be applied to objects in harsh environments, are maintenance free and will
last for years.
TEMPERATURE SENSOR:

LM35 is a precision IC temperature sensor with its output proportional to the temperature
(in o C). The sensor circuitry is sealed and therefore it is not subjected to oxidation and other
processes. With LM35, temperature can be measured more accurately than with a
thermostat. It also possess low self-heating and does not cause more than 0.1 o C temperature
rise in still air. The operating temperature range is from -55C to 150C. The output voltage
varies by 10mV in response to every o C rise/fall in ambient temperature, i.e., its scale factor
is 0.01V/ o C.

Pin Description:

Pin No Function Name

1 Supply voltage; 5V (+35V to -2V) Vcc

2 Output voltage (+6V to -1V) Output

3 Ground (0V) Ground

HEARTBEAT SENSOR:

Heart beat sensor is designed to give digital output of heat beat when a finger is
placed on it. When the heart beat detector is working, the beat LED flashes in unison with
each hear beat. This digital output can be connected to microcontroller directly to measure
the Beats per Minute (BPM) rate. It works on the principle of light modulation by blood flow
through finger at each pulse. However this sensor is of high cost, hence in this project we are
using a transducer to demonstrate the measure of heart beat rate. we are just showing a
prototype and demonstrating how we can measure heart beat rate and send to remote doctors.
