White Hall Press Release 2/8/17
2-8-17
The White Hall Police Department, The Greene County Coroners Office, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene
Unit is jointly investigating the finding of what appears to be human skeletal remains partially buried in the dirt
floor basement of a building on North Main Street in White Hall. The White Hall Police Department was
notified at approximately 9:44 a.m. on 2-7-17 that members of a local construction company had found what
appeared to be human skeletal remains in the basement of the building, located at 113 North Main Street. The
remains were discovered during the beginning stages of demolition of the building. The building most recently
was occupied by a Beauty Salon. A preliminary investigation by a Forensic Anthropologist advised that the
remains may be up to 100 years of age. The investigation is currently ongoing, and this is all the information
that can be provided at this time.
---UPDATE---
Throughout the day, (2-8-17), the White Hall Police Department has continued to work with the Greene
County Coroners office and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene. Although this investigation is still ongoing
and evidence is still being processed, we have evidence to believe that the human remains that are being
uncovered are possibly medical cadaver bones. The building in which the investigation is located, was used as a
Doctors Office from 1920 until 1969. The White Hall Police Department has taken statements from individuals
who witnessed cadaver bones inside the Doctors Office in the 1950s. As previously stated, the investigation is
still ongoing, but at this time there is no evidence to believe there is foul play. Also, we want to make clear that
the building in which the investigation is taking place was not involved in the fires that occurred last week.
