    ThepanelisheadedbyCongressMPVeerappaMoily.

    RepresentativesofStateBankofIndia,HDFCBank,ICICIBankandYesBankhavebeenaskedtobriefthepanelonsecurityrelatedissues
    concerningpaymentsinthebankingsector,accordingtoaLokSabhasecretariatnotice.

    ThenoticesaidthepanelwillalsobebriefedbyrepresentativesoftheDepartmentofFinancialServicesfromtheFinanceMinistryandthe
    CorporateAffairsMinistry.

    ThesuspectedsecuritybreachhappenedthroughamalwareinthesystemsofHitachiPaymentsServices,whichservesATMnetworks.

    Therearearound60croredebitcardsoperationalinIndia,ofwhich19croreareindigenouslydevelopedbyRuPaywhiletherestareVisa
    andMasterCardenabled.

    Ofthedebitcardsaffected,about26.5lakhareonVisaandMasterCardplatformswhile6,00,000areonRuPay.Thebreachreportedly
    involvedsome90ATMs.

    Severalpublicandprivatesectorbanksrecalledorblockedover32lakhdebitcardstosafeguardtheircustomersfromanyfinancialfraud.

    TheReserveBankofIndiaalsoinitiatedforensicaudittoinvestigatetheentirematter.

    TheRBIheldameetingalsowithseniorofficialsfromselectbanks,theNationalPaymentCorporationofIndia(NPCI)andcardnetwork
    operatorstoreviewthestepstakenbyvariousagenciestocontaintheadversefalloutofcertaincarddetailsallegedtohavebeen
    compromised.

    TheFinanceMinistryhadalsoaskedvariousagencies,tosubmittheirreportonthismatter.
