INTRODUCTION

Jazz music is a uniquely American art form rooted in African influenced harmony

and rhythm. It can be categorized by its elements of improvisation, syncopated rhythms,

and its use of brass and woodwind instruments. However there are many exceptions and

various perspectives as to what classifies a piece of music as jazz. According to Wynton

Marsalis its Music that swings! ()

The origins of jazz can be dated all the way back to early 19th century during the

slave trade.
