Research Project - Civil Rights Figures

Overview:
For this project, you will choose one of the civil rights figures listed below and research his/her life, personality, and
contributions to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Your research findings can be presented in a
variety of formats:

A PowerPoint or Prezi presentation (minimum of 10-12 slides)

An infographic; see link for more information https://piktochart.com/
A formal typed research paper (12 pt. font, double spaced, minimum of 2 pages)
A newspaper article (same requirements as the research paper)

** I would strongly suggest that you make an infographic. Its different from what weve done before, but its
more fun than a paper/PowerPoint.

Regardless of the format you choose, your research MUST address the following topics:

Biographical information Specifically, you should discuss your chosen figures childhood, background
information, and personal life
Their introduction to civil rights How did your chosen figure become an activist? How did they get
exposed to the civil rights movement?
Their contribution to the Civil Rights Movement What were his/her greatest accomplishments? What
kinds of things did he/she do?
Their legacy How were they viewed by people from the 1950s and 1960s? What is their legacy today?
Are they viewed favorably or unfavorably?

Martin Luther King Jr.

Malcolm X

Emmett Till
