The project also fits in our broader vi-

does just that by packing together all
the controls in a single device.

Liebherrs new 20-cylinder G9620 gas engine targets range of power
generation, cogeneration applications
L
iebherr Components a division of the Liebherr
Group is launching a new 20-cylinder gaseous-
fuel engine that follows the companys strategy for
the development of fully equipped gas engines.
Officially unveiled late last year at EnergyDecentral in
Hanover, Germany, the Liebherr G9620 gas engine offers a
power output in excess of 1 MW from a 48.7 L displacement
with 44% mechanical efficiency, the company said.
The new gas engine by Liebherr will be available in two
basic versions a high efficiency and high response ver-
sion, said Martial Suchet, head of Sales Gas Engines, at
Liebherr. With them, Liebherr will cover the most applica-
tions on a wide spectrum of different gases for example
gases with different energy values as well as gases with
different methane numbers. Applications both in net parallel
work and island mode, as well as in 50 or 60 Hz applica-
tions are further planned for development.
This flexibility is possible thanks to only a few adjust-
ments and some geometric aspects, but mainly thanks to
our onboard electronics. The electronic control units are
steering all essential engine functions, such as knocking
control, ignition control, power control, lambda control,
safety controls.
The company said the G9620 gas engine would include
integrated air filters, on-engine Liebherr engine control
units (ECUs) with calibrated data sets and a new water-
cooling concept.
Like its predecessors, the new engine was designed for With a 48.7 L displacement, the new Liebherr G9620 gas
