On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, Jackson Police Officers investigated an armed carjacking that
occurred at Medical Arts East (Baptist Hospital), 1190 S. State St. The victim was arm carjacked
by an unidentified black male armed with a handgun. The suspect took her 2015 Ford Mustang
and fled the scene. The vehicle was followed by a black Nissan SUV that had been recently
reported stolen. Both vehicles were later recovered. The victim suffered minor injuries after the
suspect struck her with the handgun during the incident.

On Monday, January 16, 2017, Jackson Police Officers investigated an armed carjacking that
occurred at Chadwick Nursing and Rehab Center, 1900 Chadwick Dr. The victim was arm
carjacked by an unidentified black male armed with a handgun. There was an unidentified
second suspect that was involved as well. The suspects fled the scene in her 2016 Volkswagen
Passat. There were no injuries reported.

During the course of these investigations, Precinct 1 officers assisted Major Investigations with
development of possible suspects involved. On February 11, 2017, a Precinct 1 officer stopped
and detained Meshard Johnson-14, near the area of Woody Dr. and Beatrice Dr. Officers were
able to recover a handgun from his waistband. He was later identified as the suspect responsible
for the carjacking incidents. The recovered weapon was believed to be the weapon used in at
least one of the incidents. Johnson has been charged as an adult with two counts of armed
carjacking.

These investigations are ongoing and investigators are seeking to identify other suspects
involved. Anyone with any information on the identity of other suspects involved in these
