They were the most powerful kingdom in southern Africa at the beginning
of the 19th century.
Historical Events:
1816 - Shaka wins control of Zulu
1828 - Shaka is murdered by his half-brother, Dingaan, who becomes leader in his
place
1837 - Piet Retief, the leader of the Great Trek, makes an agreement with
Dingaan, for a settlement of land

1838 - During a ceremony of the treaty, Pat Retief and his companions were killed
and overpowered.
