Dear Andrea Pappas:
Every year, more than 431,000 car accidents are caused by distracted driving. Nearly 75 percent of these accidents are due to texting and driving. Though 95 percent of drivers disapprove of distracted driving, accidents continue to occur daily as a result of it.
On Oct. 6, AT&Ts It Can Wait Tour will be stopping by the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va., in an effort to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. The It Can Wait Tour is a cross-country tour of college campuses hosted by AT&T. The program is designed to educate students about the dangers of distracted driving while encouraging them to sign a pledge to keep your eyes on the road, not on your phone.
The day-long event will include the It Can Wait Driving Simulator, hosted in Squires Student Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and a Tim McGraw concert on the Drillfield from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The concert is free for Virginia Tech Students.
AT&T would like to invite you to a press conference with McGraw and Sue Smith, director of outreach and programming for It Can Wait. The conference will take place Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2016 at 4 p.m. (Squires Student Center, Commonwealth Ballroom, second floor).
Please RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 27 by 5 p.m. to Olivia Ciardi at oliviaciardi@att.com.
