Sound data Page 45
Symbols Formulae:
Lwtot = total sound power level for the relevant sound Lwtot = Lwtot + K1 + K2 + K3
path and appropriate throttling curve...................... dB o
Lwtot = total sound power level to inlet or outlet duct when For division into octave bands, use the formula:
o
the fan is operating on the throttling curve giving Lw = Lwtot + Kok
the lowest sound power level.................................. dB
Lw = Lwtot divided into octave bands .............dB (ref. 10-12 W) Sound paths: a = to inlet or outlet duct.
b = to surroundings (free-inlet fan).
K1 = corr. for diff. throttling curves and sound paths....... dB
c = to surroundings (duct-connected fan).
K2, K3 = correction for different sound paths........................ dB
Kok = approximate deviation from Lwtot NB! The stated values refer to sound power levels. Some fan manufac-
for the particular octave band................................. dB turers still quote sound pressure levels even though these vary with the
acoustic characteristics of the surroundings and distance from the fan.
L = throttling curve = 10 pd/Dpt Sound pressure levels, sometimes weighted as dB(A) or dB(C) values,
Dp
t = total pressure rise................................................... Pa are considerably lower than the corresponding sound power level Lwt.

Fan charts
In general, the charts specify three maximum speeds for Pressure losses across accessories:
maximum temperatures of 100, 200 and 350oC. Within HCEZ-20 and -21 inlet taper piece: 0.35 x dynamic pressure.
these limits, the maximum speed can be determined by
linear interpolation between 100 and 200oC or between HCEZ-20 HCEZ-21
200 and 350oC.

the fan is operating on the throttling curve giving Lw = Lwtot + Kok
the lowest sound power level.................................. dB
Lw = Lwtot divided into octave bands .............dB (ref. 10-12 W) Sound paths: a = to inlet or outlet duct.
b = to surroundings (free-inlet fan).
K1 = corr. for diff. throttling curves and sound paths....... dB
c = to surroundings (duct-connected fan).
L = throttling curve = 10 pd/Dpt Sound pressure levels, sometimes weighted as dB(A) or dB(C) values,

motor is delta-connected. During starting, the motor is star-connected
and torque is consequently reduced. Check that the motor's torque
curve is higher than the fan's torque curve throughout the range up to
90% of the synchronous speed. If no torque curves are available, the
following formulae are sufficiently accurate for determining the mini-
mum motor rating.

Description
The HXEG inlet vane control assembly is designed for flow control in centrifugal fans and is connected directly to the
fan inlet flange. The assembly is of a robust construction and provides highly economic flow control. The size range fol-
lows that of the HC fans and the flanges comply with ISO 13351. NB! The HXEG must not be connected directly to the
fan without checking that the anti-vibration mountings can cope with the increased component load on the fan.
- The HXEG is available in sizes 031-160. The max. permitted gas temperature is 350C.
- Robust construction, (handles pressures up to 20 kPa).
The assembly's chief components are: casing, guide vanes, hub and control mechanism. The casing has connecting
flanges on both ends. The guide vane shaft is supported on bearings in the hub and casing. The hub is supported by
radial stays. The assemblies can be connected to fans which, under fully throttled conditions at 20C, will give max.
pressure rise of 20 kPa.
Regulation is either by an actuator or manually with the lever.
Control
The assembly can be equipped with an actuator. Four different actuators are available as accessories: HXEZ05 (electric),
HXEZ-06 (electric), HXEZ-07 (pneumatic) and HXEZ-08 (electric).
Actuator
Actuators are double-acting and are console mounted on the assemblies.

HXEG 031, 040, 050, 063, 071, 080, 090, 100, 112, 125, 140 and 160.
The assemblies are suitable for standard fans. Assemblies and fans have common size codes.
Principles of operation
The guide vanes, which can be set in various positions, impart a rotary motion to the gas stream as it reaches the
impeller. This lowers the pressure and output characteristics of the fan and ensures good operating economy over a
relatively wide control range.
Pressure drop
The pressure drop with the vanes fully open is 0.2 pd where pd is the dynamic pressure.
