What is Conglomerate???

A conglomerate is a combination of two or more corporations engaged in entirely different


businesses together into one corporate structure, usually involving a parent company and
several (or many) subsidiaries.
Often, a conglomerate is a multi-industry company.
Conglomerates are often large and often multinational.
Media Conglomerate

A media conglomerate describes companies that own large


numbers of companies in various mass media such as television,
radio, publishing, movies, and the Internet.

As of 2008, The Walt Disney Company is the world's largest media


conglomerate, with News Corporation, Viacom and Time
Warner ranking second, third and fourth respectively.

A conglomerate is, by definition, a large company that consists of


divisions of seemingly unrelated businesses.

The Company's Filmed Entertainment segment produces, acquires,


markets and distributes both, live-action and animated filmed
entertainment across the world.
The Company also develops, produces and licenses live stage
plays.
The Company produces films on its own and jointly with other
studios or production companies, as well as with other entities.
Its films are produced primarily under the Universal Pictures, Focus
Features and Illumination names. Its content consists of theatrical
films, direct-to-video titles and its film library, which consists
approximately 5,000 titles in a range of genres.

Theme Parks

The Company's Theme Parks segment consists primarily of its


Universal theme parks in Orlando, Florida and Hollywood, California.
The Company's Universal Orlando consists of approximately two
theme parks Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of
Adventure, as well as CityWalk, a dining, retail and entertainment
complex. Universal Orlando features on-site themed hotels, which
the Company owns a non-controlling interest.
Its Universal theme park is in Hollywood, California, which consists
primarily of Universal Studios Hollywood. In addition, the Company
licenses the right to use the Universal Studios brand name and other
intellectual property and also provides other services to third parties
that owns and operates the Universal Studios Japan theme park in
Osaka, Japan and the Universal Studios Singapore theme park on
Sentosa Island, Singapore. The Company also owns a water park,
Wet 'n Wild, in Orlando, Florida.
