Shapes

Brittany B. Educ-210
Theme:
During this unit, students will be working
under the theme of shapes. Students will
learn the difference between two-
dimensional and three dimensional
shapes. Students will also learn the
different types of shapes and their
characteristics.
Target
The target subject is kindergarten math. We will also incorporate developmental skills such as, fine-motor
skills into our activities. Childrens prior encounters with shapes is useful, inevitable really; but is not necessary.

Objectives

1. State Goal: After teaching the unit, students will be able to describe the different
characteristics of shapes then make use of this knowledge in given activities.

2. State Objective 1: After learning the difference between two-dimensional and three-
dimensional shapes, students will be able to sort the given manipulatives into the two
categories without adult assistance.

3. State Objective 2: After reading The Greedy Triangle by Marilyn Burns, students will be
able to construct shapes that represents the sides of the character within the given time
limit.

4.State Objective 3: After watching a video about the different shapes, five students will
work on a computer program that categorizes shapes within ten minutes and will then
alternate with another group.

Activity 1 will allow children to
demonstrate what theyve been taught.
This activity can be done as a group or
replace pictures with manipulatives.

Activity 2 is an enjoyable way to teach


students shapes. The book is fun and
allows students to share their
experiences.

Activity 3 allows us to make use of


technology! There are a lot of interactive
games students can when learning.
