At 12:53 today Thunder Bay Fire Rescue was dispatched to a report of

a vehicle accident on Dawson road near Dog Lake road. The first arriving
unit discovered a transport in the ditch and an SUV with extensive
damage due to collision in the opposite ditch. An off duty paramedic had
arrived on scene prior to arrival of the fire rescue crews. He had made
initial patient assessments and provided necessary information to the
fire officer. It was determined that there were six occupants in the SUV
and that extrication was needed.
Fire rescue crew members employed heavy hydraulics to pry open the
right rear door to provide access to the occupants in the rear of the
vehicle. The jaws were also used on the left front door to free the driver
who was entrapped in the wreckage. As patients were accessed
paramedics provided patient care and transported them to Thunder Bay
Regional Hospital.
On scene were numerous police vehicles from the OPP and Thunder
Bay Police Service as well as a number of Superior North EMS vehicles
and personnel. There were three fire rescue pumpers and 13 fire crew
members on scene.
