I. Electricity production at low head (approximately 2.5 m).
II. Predictable and reliable power output.
III. No fuel and limited maintenance, so low running costs.
IV. Long-lasting and robust design.
V. Easy and low cost installation.
VI. Environmental-friendly.
VII. Small-scale setup.
VIII. Steel-fabricated turbine enclosure with a weatherproof cladding.
Key Performance Targets
I. Power output ranging from 10 kW to 100 kW. II. Expected turbine efficiency more 85 %. III. Expected Drive efficiency 95 %. IV. Expected generator efficiency 90 %. V. Overall system efficiency more than 75% product aforementioned efficiencies.
Service Environment and predictable Misuse
I. Low head water source like canals, rivers etc. II. Small scale grid system for distribution. III. Batteries for storage of electricity. IV. The drive systems (gearboxes or belts) will require periodic oil changes/replacement along with bearings in all of the rotating machinery. V. If fore bay is not serviced regularly the deposited slit and gravel may harm turbine blades.
User Training Basic user training is required for safe operation of the MHP system.
Key Project Deadlines
I. Time to complete project 3 months. II. Regular project reviews after every 15 days. Physical Description I. Design parameters: low head (around 2.5m), steel-fabricated turbine enclosure, material TBD. II. Design variables: type of turbine, size of runner diameter, size of rotor diameter, type of connecting system, type of water channel system, type of water intake. III. Design constraints: upper limit of size of setup, turbine house footprint (10 to 40 m2). IV. All others TBD
