Analysis of catch me if you can opening credits

The opening credits for the movie Catch Me If You Can exemplify a
stylistic manner of addressing the makers and members of the film
making process. Instantly, the production company name DreamWorks
Pictures is demonstrated first to publicise their name, whilst addressing
their making of the entire movie. Non diegetic score music is evident
throughout, however it begins quietly to create an enigmatic atmosphere,
so the audience are intrigued as to what the film is about. As well as this,
the music is parallel to the action of the animated individuals within the
piece. This is evident through the music, which creates an ambiguous
vibe, and the animations, which seem suspicious through their movement,
as well as the disappearances and reappearances through the fonts.
Synchronous sound is further used to compliment the pace of the credits
and the emphasised sounds within the music. This is effective, because it
again reiterates a stylistic way of making credits, so the audience are
actually attentive to the company and all of its members. The font used
for the names is bigger and bolder than that of their job role. This is to
highlight the importance of the company members and to again
familiarise the audience as to who made the film possible. The font for
their names exemplifies elongated letters, producing vertical and
horizontal lines, in which the animations react to. This is effective,
because it immerses the audience into the action. The animations also act
as a foreshadowing tool, in order to tell the audience what the characters
within the films personas are like, whilst subtly emphasising what they do
in the film. The editing, connecting the different scenes of the action is
fast paced, to symbolise the nonstop action within the movie. The whole
of the opening credits tells a story of one individual in a range of
situations which further foreshadows aspects of the movie, whist creating
an ambiguous element as to why the animated character is in so many
places, playing so many roles. The animations are black shadowed figures
which creates an enigma as to who they are. This contrasts with the
backgrounds which produce more colour. The directors name is placed at
the end of the credits. This is so the audience know the brains behind the
whole entire process. Primarily, the director is the most important member
of the company, therefore outing their name last show cases to the
audience who put the whole thing together.
