The day I was going to be observed I was more nervous than usual. I had
prepared my class pretty well. But even if I prepared it pretty well, the whole
development of the class was mainly in my student’s hands. This is because
they were in charge of giving their presentations on different topics. Mostly, I
was afraid about them not being able to present. Therefore, I prepared more
material in case something failed. And of course, I could use this material in
case they finished earlier than expected. I had presentations in both courses;
with 7 graders and with 3rd secondary. I really had a lot of fun with them. In the
case of 3rd grade, all of them brought their presentations. It was about acting
out “Jokes” I had previously picked for them. My main focus was for them to
practice their speaking skills. I could see they were having a lot of fun. As I
learnt last year with one of our teachers from college “Fun is a Fundamental
Function of English”. I could see it now. Finally I was really thankful, because
everything turned out just fine. As I had some spare time I introduced “the
passive voice” subject. This was the moment where my supervisor left the
classroom. The very next day she came back to the school to supervise my
practice with the 7th grade. They also, as I already mentioned, had their own
presentation on their “Favorite Animals”. In this case, I must admit I didn’t
bring any additional material, because there were a lot of presentations
pending. The majority presented and only two students refused to present
saying they didn’t have their material. I am going to give them another chance
to do it before closing the semester. However, I am going to give them a lower
mark. In the case of the 7th graders, I had a fantastic time. It was really great
asking the whole class questions about their classmates presentations and
having them answering to me I return, and in English!! Certainly, it was worth
the whole effort me and they put into the activity. I know I still have a few
things I have to work on, such like group control! That’s right. I have some
issues with the little ones, but nothing I can’t handle. But I must admit that the
day I was supervised they behaved like angels. In the end I was really happy
and satisfied about this experience, because I was able to realize that if you
put a lot of effort, fun and love at the moment of preparing your class, you can
get excellent results.
