Question # 1 Differentiate between ASD and LRFD design approach, enlist


advantages and disadvantages of LRFD?

Question # 2 Design a channel section purlin with midpoint sag rod for the
following data:

Dead load of roofing = 17 kg/m2


Insulation = 5 kg/m2
Assumed self weight of purline = 12 kg/m2
Live load = 60 kg/m2
= 30 0
P = 2.5 m
S = 5.5 m

Question # 3 Calculate the factored load capacity of a double channel


section member of A36 steel according to AISC LRFD specification. The
member is 5m long and consist of 2 Cs 200 x 20.5, with flanges turned out
and with clear gap of 100 mm. Assume that there are two 15mm rivets for

each channel at any one cross-section (one in each flange). U 0.8

mode for the angel L 102x102x6.4 attached with three 20 mm diameter
