APPLICANT GUIDELINES FOR


SCHOOL ON THE MOVE PROGRAM
IN
THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, KYUSHU UNIVERSITY

Admission Policy

ASEAN

The assurance of the steady supply of mineral resources and energy from ASEAN countries in the future is an
extremely important task for Japans resource diplomacy and energy security. Therefore, based upon the
abovementioned concept, Kyushu University co-develop a cooperative education program with universities in
both Japan and ASEAN countries. This program comprised of schemes as follows:
i) International Internship,
This provides the students from Japan and ASEAN countries with practical experiences for their global activities
in the future. With their expertise in earth resources engineering, students are expected to capable of giving
solutions to problems pertaining to the development of resources on land and sea.
ii) School on the Move,
Promoting exchange between students from Japan and ASEAN countries.
iii) Graduate School Double Degrees
Aiming at cultivating high quality researchers and leading engineers.
A full scale implementation of this program, which is a build-up cooperative education program by three faculties
and a graduate school, is expected to serve the aforementioned purposes. In order to support those objectives, an
International Cooperative Graduate School will be established by the Japan/ASEAN University Consortium,
and the activities of this program will be extensively conducted in all ASEAN countries.

(1) Implementation of School on the Move (Undergraduate and Graduate school). The number of
students participants that could earn credits : about 40 person per year ( minimum eight credits earned in
total)
The process of cultivating international skills is structured through the following subjects:
Introductory Subjects
1) Major Education Subject
Basically, students are required to earn at least two credits along each ACD (admission curriculum
diploma policy) in each university (that belong to this program) .
2) International Academic and Industrial Liaison Research
Student participants must earn 2 credits from attending classroom lectures held in universities that is a
member of this program.
International Cooperative Earth Resource Practice (Int. Coop. ERP):
The students in the groups of resource development, geological exploration as well as petroleum and
geothermal, must continuously move among at least 3 cooperative universities in Japan and ASEAN
countries, for about roughly one month. The students will earn two credits by attending classroom
lectures and conducting field investigations during this period.
OJT:
As a part of their thesis research, the students stay in the field pertaining to the subject of their study.
Based on the information School on the Move receive, the students could carry out the research for
three months at the most and two credits will be earned.
Students who have completed this program will be awarded a program completion certificate.

Qualifications for Application


Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

TOEIC
600 TOEFL GPA 2.3/3.0 3.0/4.0
The applicants must prove their English proficiency by submitting TOEIC certificate with minimum acceptable
score of 600 (or TOEFL with score equivalent to it).
GPA score of 2.3 /3.0 or better , 3.0/4.0 or better.

School on the Move, is the basis for the international internship program set for a 3 rd year undergraduate
students to further extend the cooperation in terms of practical education. 20 master students from Japan will
be sent to Kyushu University and Waseda University in Japan and universities in ASEAN countries including
Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Institute of Technology Bandung (Indonesia), Gadjah Mada University
(Indonesia), University of the Philippines, University Sains Malaysia, Ho Chi Minh City University of
Technology (Vietnam) and Institute of Technology of Cambodia. Students will earn credits through
participation in the introductory subjects at the cooperative universities for about half year which comprised
of one month short-stay education program and maximum three months for long-stay research.

Applicants should submit the necessary documents for the application to the Department Office of Earth
Resources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu University, within the submission period i.e. April 17
(Fri) - April 30 (Thu), 2015.

The documents for the application can be directly brought to the abovementioned office or it can also be
sent by registered special delivery mail. "School on the Move Program should be labeled or written in red on
the envelope.

The documents for the application that sent via postal mail should arrive at Kyushu University no later than
April 30 (Thu), 2015.


Schedule of Examination and Screening procedure

Subjects

Written and Oral Examination will be conducted to probe the Personal Motives of the candidate for School on the
Move.
(Written or/and Oral Examination will be covering the Specialized Subject and the research progress or future
research outline for applicants who confirm expected graduation)

The applicants should obtain detail information about the date and place of the examination from the chairperson
of the School on the Move Program.

Announcement of the Result of Screening

On May 12(Tue), 2015 the result will be sent by postal mail and E-mail to the successful applicants.
Inquiries regarding the screening result will not be responded.
