    ThedanglingwiresonthemainNetajiSubhashChandraMargwerejustnotaneyesore,butalsoahazardduringthe
    rains.Alivewiretouchingasoakedwallorpuddlewouldleadtoelectrocution.

    Thoughtheplantolaythewiresundergroundtoimproveaestheticsoftheareahadbeenonforoverayear,itwasonly
    recentlythatthetaskhasbeencompleted.TheprojectwasoverseenbytheShahjahanabadRedevelopmentCorporation
    andthelayingofcableswascarriedoutbypowersupplier,BSESYamunaandMCD.

    SaviturPrasad,managingdirectorofSRDC,describedtheDaryaganjprojectasaHerculeantask.Wearefocusingon
    improvingtheaestheticsoftheWalledCity.LayingcablesinDaryaganjwascompletedinMarchthisyear.

    Daryaganjsmainroadissteepedinhistory,butthewiremeshwouldblocktheviewofsomeofthehistoricbuildings.
    Officialssaidsixtransformerswereshiftedundergroundandittookaboutfivetosixmonthstocompletetheproject.

    Daryaganjbeingthepilotprojectforlayingundergroundcables,SRDCisnowplanningtostartthesameprojectinmain
    ChandniChowkafterthemonsoon.Officialssaid500distributionboxes,144feederpillars,48mlowtensioncables,500m
    hightensioncables,125kmservicelinesand11packagetransformerswillbeinstalledoncetheChandniChowkproject
    kicksoffaroundSeptember.

    CableshavebeenlaidundergroundonNetajiSubhashChandraMarg.Buttheworkinsidethecoloniesremains.The
    discomischargingahugeamountforcarryingouttheworkintheresidentialarea.Ourmainaimistolaythecable
    undergroundinDaryaganj,restoftheworkwillbetakenupinaphasedmanner,saidaseniorMCDofficial.

    BSESYamunaRameshNarainsaidtheywouldstartworkinChandniChowkandotherareasoftheWalledCityonce
    theygetfunds.WeshiftedoverheadcablesinDaryaganj,PaharganjandasmallstretchatKarolBaghwheretouristswere
    expectedduringtheGames.WearenowwaitingforthegoaheadforChandniChowk.TheentireprojectinShahjahanabad
    willcostRs250croreandstretchesarebeingidentifiedinphases,hesaid.

    EightroadshavebeenidentifiedintheWalledCity,includingChandniChowktoNayaBazaarviaKhariBaoli,theroad
    startingfromSubhashMargtoJamaMasjidthenbacktoJamaMasjidviaParadeGroundcarparkingtoUrduBazaarroad.

    ApprovalfortheChandniChowkprojectwasgiveninthelastSRDCmeetingandMCDwasrecentlygivenRs12crorefor
    theproject.
