Classroom Language

Classroom language refers to the teachers use of the target language for
structuring and managing the class session. Therefore, the goal of the CLIL teacher
is to use classroom language effectively in order to maximize learning opportunities
and promote the integration of language and content.

The following are some of the uses of classroom language:

1. activating prior knowledge

2. modelling content and language for learners to produce

3. explaining a new concept

4. checking understanding of a concept

5. encouraging learners to ask questions, make associations, collaborate

6. providing feedback and correction
