I.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to
A. define and calculate momentum of a moving object;
B. define and calculate impulse of a moving object; and
C. explain applications of impulse in real-life situations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC : FORCES AND MOTION
B. SUBTOPIC : IMPULSE AND MOMENTUM
C. CONCEPTS :
a. Momentum is define as the product of mass and velocity which is
p = mv. It is also define as the difficulty of a body to undergo a sudden stop.
b. The two factors that affect momentum are mass and velocity. So,
momentum is a vector quantity. It is measured in kg.m/s.
c. Based from the formula momentum (p) is directly proportional to mass
(m) and velocity (v).
d. Impulse is the product of the net force and the time over which it is
exerted which is J= Ft.
e. Impulse is a vector quantity. The common units of impulse is N.s
f. Based from the formula impulse (J) is directly proportional to force (F)
and time (t).
g. The impulse-momentum theorem states that when a net force acts on an
object, the impulse of this force is equal to the change in momentum of the
object: in symbols it is given as: J = p.

D. SKILLS TO BE DEVELOPED:

Describing, explaining, and solving impulse and momentum problems.

E. APPLICATION:
As an effort is made to apply the impulse to a variety of real-world situations, by
using the equation as a guide to thinking about how an alteration in the value of one
variable might affect the value of another variable the students will understand that
change in momentum in an object is important in some instances.

F. MATERIALS USED:
Laptop, LCD projector, board marker, eggs, toy cars, cloth
