of asyariyah-jabariyah, shafii in fiqh, and al ghazali tashawwuf. These three aspects of
orthodoxy have been formed since 17-18 century thanks to the work of well known scholar in
those time such as Abd Rauf Singkili, Yusuf al Makassari, Arsyad Banjari, Abd Samad
Palembani, and so on.

Indonesian Islam orthodoxy have such difference with for instance the orthodoxy of Saudi
Arabian Islam which consist only with 2 aspects: theology of Salafi-Wahabi, and Hanbali fiqh,
whereas tashawwuf does not have place in Saudi because for them-which said by its scholar- its
full of bida and khurafat.

The orthodoxy of Indonesia modifies the framework of anthropology Redfield (1897-1958)


which make a concept of great tradition which include local tradition that has been practiced by
various moslem community. The interaction and exchange which continuously happening
between these two traditions result in convergency of ideology and religious understanding
which strengthen the paradigm of moderate Islam in Indonesia.
