Critique Paper in Sugidanon Bayluhay

The play Sugidanon Bayluhay do have gender inequalities. In the beginning,

in the place of the Itas, the men on the tribe are doing masculine works like
gathering foods and carrying it to serve it to their king. The women somehow just
do the household chores. There, you can see that Merkudo was appointed to be the
next king and for his queen he can choose freely among the women on the tribe.
Maniwang-niwang who is in love with Merkudo cannot do anything to express her
love but to wait for Merkudo to choose her to be his queen. Maniwang-niwang did
everything to make herself adorable in the eyes of Merkudo but she was poisoned
because a wicked woman envy their love. The wicked woman also used a love
potion just to get the adoration of Merkudo. But the tides turned, Maniwang-niwang
was cured and Merkudo was freed from the potion and they happily ended up to be
together. In the place of the Malays, women were nothing but just slaves. The
Sultan is very cruel that he hurts the slaves and he was just making fun of them.
The women were used to entertain the Sultan by making them dance even though it
is against their will. Gender inequality in the Itas and the Malays is really different.
In the Itas, men love and give importance to their women but in the Malays it is a
tragedy because women were being enslaved by the cruelness of the Sultan.
