The document describes a line-of-sight filming device called Spex that aims to make capturing memories a seamless experience. Spex has inward and outward facing cameras - the inward camera detects the user's interest through changes in pupil size and triggers the outward camera to record the object of the user's gaze. Recorded moments are aggregated in the background and can later be stored or deleted by the user. The Spex project involved an interdisciplinary team who created a 3-minute video to demonstrate the functionality of automatically capturing moments based on the user's interest.

Spex: Capturing moments that matter from perspectives that matter.
Foundations of Interaction Design
An investigation into line-of-sight filming that strives to make capturing memories a seamless, tailored experience.
Why do we record? What is the goal of someone who
decides to initiate recording, and what does the interac- tion look like between him or her and the archive of these moments? How can we make capturing moments a frictionless experience, and make interacting with the recording device itself delightful? The Spex device (line-of-sight camera/glasses) answers these questions with cameras pointing both outward at the users surroundings and inward at the users eyes--the inward-facing camera detects interest, and the outward-facing camera captures video of the object of interest.
Recording is triggered by a change Moments are aggregated in
in pupil size -- this indicates interest the background as the user in whatever is at the focus of the proceeds with his or her subjects gaze. Once recording is day, then presented later initiated, the Spex device captures for storage or deletion at whatever the user is looking at, or, the discretion of the user. the users line-of-sight, for a short period of time.
Group members tackled the challenge of conveying a complex
idea in a short, 3 minute video. The storyboard was trimmed to include only the most relevant elements, and shots were carefully starged to highlight the functionality of the Spex device.
The project was a collaborative, interdisciplinary effort with
representatives from fields such as Art, Design and Computer Science.
