YouthQuest Unit Lesson Plan Outline

Brief Description During Coregroup time I will focus on teaching the students to use the internet as a more
effective resource. Students will gain hands on experience practicing using the internet to
complete web quests.

I. Purpose: Clearly state the purpose of the lesson / activity

The purpose of this activity is to introduce a multitude of online resources with students and give them exercises that practice
using them. The web quests they use to practice this new skill will also teach them information about various topics. The web
quests are designed to hide academics in an exploratory activity. This will also give them practice reading for information.

II. Unit Structure Outline: The format of the unit lesson and activities, including the steps you will follow. Write it so someone who
has not done the activity will be able to lead it.

Day 1 Materials Needed


First explain to the kids what a web quest is and write a few resources on the board. Computer Lab
www.khanacademy.org, www.wolframalpha.com, Google Scholar, ect.. Searchsmart Web quest
Second pass out the web quest worksheet and let them know they will have two class periods to (attached)
complete the assignment. Once they have finished they will do a short presentation to the class
talking about what they discovered.

Day 2 Materials Needed

Day 3 Materials Needed
This is a two week project. Students will research the effects of alcohol, they will then find a Computer Lab
creative to demonstrate what they learned. Use groups of four or more. Alcohol Webquest

Day 4 Materials Needed


This is a two week project where students will research a bunch of information about china and Computer Lab
then design a creative way to present that information to the class. I am going to add questions China Webquest (attached)
about population land mass and GDP. Students can get this info at (www.wolframalpha.com)

Day 5 Materials Needed


This can take 4-6 lesson periods. First students will complete the plastic by numbers web quest. Computer Lab
Principle permission
Then as a class we will design a school wide recycling program that will be administered by the Plastic webquest
students in my core group I will schedule them tasks like a job and partner with day staff to allow (attached)
them to complete their jobs. We will monitor our program and tally how much extra we recycle

Day 6 Materials Needed


Students will complete a webquest about the economy. Handout the attached worksheet and have Computer Lab
students research information on the Economy both nationally and globally. Once the groups have Economic webquest
completed their web quests have them present info about the country they chose to research. (attached)
Once groups have all presented about their country have an open ended conversation about the
economy here and how it relates to the world economy and brainstorm ideas to solve the issues
they will face as adults entering a global marketplace.

Students will be constantly summarizing the information they learned after each lesson they will demonstrate what they learned in a
creative way.

what different materials, order of instructions, etc.?
