Professional Learning Advisory Committee


Purpose:

The purpose of the Professional Learning Advisory Committee is to ensure that all staff are supported and
receive adequate training and resources while implementing district and building initiatives. Throughout
the implementation process the PLAC will ensure that teachers and staff have an opportunity to collaborate
and reflect in the areas of professional growth, challenges, successes, and mastery within district and
building initiatives. All of our work will align with the Robbinsdale Area Schools Unified District Vision to
support student achievement.

Roles and Responsibilities of building Representatives on the District Professional Learning


Advisory Committee:

1. Serve on the Building Professional Learning Team or School Improvement Plan Writing Team
2. Attend district meetings and trainings or find a substitute to represent your building
3. Report site-level professional learning activities to the District Professional Learning Advisory
Committee
4. Disseminate information from the District Professional Learning Advisory Committee meetings and
trainings to site-level team
5. Provide leadership at the site level in regard to site-level professional development activities
6. Disseminates information regarding learning activities for new teachers.
Expectations of Site-Level Professional Learning Teams/Committees:

1. Each building shall have a team that consists of a majority of teachers that follows the provisions in
the contract and MN State statute 122A.60
2. Send a representative to District Professional Learning Advisory Committee meetings and trainings
3. Align professional learning goal for your building / program to the school improvement plan
4. Plan and facilitate building level professional learning activities during the time specified as
building-level professional learning activities.
5. Collect evaluation forms (or an electronic feedback) for each professional learning activity
implemented in the building.
6. Provide ongoing support and learning experiences for new teachers in your building in order to
acclimate them to the specific culture of the building.
7. Establish policy and procedures regarding the expenditure of building professional development
funds.
8. Coordinate the pre-approval and recording of clock hours for participants in building-level
professional learning activities
