How job ready are you?

Getting your degree is only one step towards getting a job, to be successful in any role; you will need to exhibit a
mix of skills: employability skills. This means that the specialist, technical skills associated with different roles
may be less important than the 'soft skills' that can be transferred between different jobs and different employment
sectors. Candidates may have the qualifications and 'hard skills' needed to be able to manage the job role but,
without a well-honed set of 'soft skills', employers are less inclined to hire

Generally speaking, there are five basic skills that employers want you to have, no matter what industry you're
working in: Employability skills are a set of skills and behaviors that are necessary for every job.

Employability skills allow you to:

communicate with coworkers


solve problems
understand your role within the team
make responsible choices, and
take charge of your own career
Employability skills are those skills necessary for getting, keeping and being successful in a job.
Having employability skills can help you get a job. They can also help you to stay in a job and work your way to the
top. Institutions are taking efforts to inculcate these skills in students along with degree program. This will make the
students job-ready when they graduate. Just a degree and 60 per cent aggregate marks will not help you get the jobs
they want. With millions of students graduating and lakhs of graduates passing out every year, students should be
trained to stand tall. Adding additional qualifications to their CVs is the key to success.
Educational institutes should provide several co-curricular and skill-enhancement opportunities for boosting
students motivation during their undergraduate and Post graduate programmes, the additional qualifications that
students can attain are:
Certificate of English proficiency,
learning one foreign language other than English,
soft skill learning certificate,
research paper presentation in a reputed conference along with faculty guide,
publication of journal paper along with faculty guide,
taking part in national-level competitions and having a certificate of participation,
gaining expertise and having a certificate of completing a course on generic software
packages such as Excel, Tally, Animation, Networking etc
become an office-bearer of any of the student clubs or department activities and
Take part in team projects through which they can get a letter of appreciation from
industries.
These achievements will speak volumes about the students capabilities. The above tips
