Chapter 1 Introduction
Chapter 1 Introduction
This document provides the general information that you need to configure the Control Center
and client applications to function on an existing network. You will also find some common
scenarios with the steps to get clients on a workgroup network to process orders successfully.
Use this manual to help you:
Configure the Control Center and clients for an existing network
Add a Rimage system to an existing Workgroup network environment
Add a Networked Client (Windows or Macintosh
Change the Default Rimage User Account password
The Rimage Messaging System communicates order requests and passes on completion notices
or possible errors. The system uses a Messaging Server that forwards the orders to the Image
and Production Servers. The Messaging Server runs on the Control Center. All client applications
and Production and Image Servers must have access to the Messaging Server. The source files
and the Rimage System Folder must be accessible by the clients and the Rimage Servers for the
system to work.

Chapter 2 Conditions
Before you can configure the Control Center, you must ensure that the following processes have
been performed.
The Rimage autoloader and printer are set up and connected to the Control Center before
starting the advanced setup process.
All setup information is entered.
All basic setup requirements are met.
Tip: The default installation of Imaging Server and Production Server loads these as
Windows Services. You can choose Custom so the Imaging Server and Production
Server install as servers. The default installation method is recommended.
Note: You can bypass the software activation until the system is completely installed on
the network. You have up to 30 days to activate the software. Activating the software
provides Rimage with your systems information so we can provide you with new
software updates, any helpful or critical information, and faster service.
2
Chapter 2 Conditions
Tip: You can record source files from your local hard drive if you are using the built-in
imaging module of QuickDisc. If Use external Image Server is enabled, the
RimageServices User Account will need Read access to the source files.
3. Ensure that the Rimage System Folder is accessible to the Control Center and client
applications. The Rimage System Folder holds all the files required for an order.
4. Ensure that the Rimage System Folder is shared and the RimageServices User Account and
Users running QuickDisc Multi-Platform have Full Control Share Access and NTFS Modify
Permission.
Tip: You can install multiple client applications in the building where the Rimage
autoloader is located. See the Rimage Software License on page 23.
5. Ensure that labels use a CD Designer .btw file, an Acrobat .pdf file, a Print Control Language
.pcl file, or a Print-to-File .prn file.
-
Important! Rimage recommends that you use either .btw or .pdf files.
6. Ensure that shared permissions, NTFS file level permissions, and user accounts are properly
configured when client applications are added to remote computers. Specific information is
provided throughout this document.
Tip: By default, Windows XP applies Read only access on shares when they are first
created.
7. Ensure that the Messaging Server and Bridge Server are operating on the network.
-
Important! The Messaging Server and Bridge Server typically run on the Control Center.
Rimage recommends only one Messaging Server and one Bridge Server operating on
the network if orders are to be submitted to any Image or Production Server.

Chapter 3 Setup scenarios
If orders are submitted using the QuickDisc application on the Control Center, the Rimage system
will function correctly out of the box; otherwise, you must create a user account on the File
Server.
Use this procedure to create a user account.
-
Important! In a workgroup environment, the RimageServices account must be created on
every computer that will be interacting with the Rimage system.
1. To create a User account on the File Server, enter information in the following fields.
Username Enter RimageServices
Password Enter password
2. Share the Source Files located on the File Server.
3. Verify that the RimageServices User account has Read Access to the Source Files.
4. Verify that the User account logging on to the Rimage Control Center and submitting jobs has
Read access to the Source Files.
-
Important! Rimage recommends that the password on the RimageServices User account be
changed for security reasons. See page 19 for instructions on how to change the password.
If the password is changed, you will need to change the password on all RimageServices
User accounts. In this case, the password would need to be changed on both the File Server
and the Control Center.

Tip: If you are using Windows XP, you must turn off the Use Simple File Sharing feature.
Navigate: Tools > Folder Options > View > Use Simple File Sharing.
The Macintosh must have OS 10.2 / 10.3 (Jaguar / Panther) for the Rimage Client
applications to work.
Your Macintosh graphic application must be able to export to an Acrobat .pdf file.
The following IP addresses must be static:
The Macintosh computer must have a static IP address. This could be either a reserved
or static IP address.
The location of the Rimage System Folder must have an IP address that does not
change. This could be either a reserved or static IP address.
The Control Center must have an IP address that does not change.
Users and user permissions must be appropriate.
The user logged onto the Macintosh must have Full Control share permissions for the
Rimage System Folder. If the Rimage System Folder is on a Windows computer, NTFS
security permissions must allow the user on the Macintosh Read/Write permissions for the
Rimage System Folder and all its contents.
Note: By default, the Public Folder provided read-only access for other users. You must
change the Public Folder to provide read/write access for other users.
Windows 2000 default settings allow everyone Full Control Share and NTFS permissions
when they are created.
Windows XP default settings allow read-only access.
Note: The recommended location for the Rimage System Folder is on a computer running
Windows, preferably a server not located on the same computer as the Rimage Server
applications.
The Control Center must be logged in with the same user name and password that the
Macintosh client is using for submitting orders. There is an alternative, but it involves
enabling the root user account and modifying the Samba config file.
See note (m) for directions on how to enable the Root account. See note (n) for directions
on how to modify the Samba config file.
When a user on the Macintosh wants to burn files to a CD/DVD, the user who is logged
on must select only files from their Home Folder. The users files located under the
Home / Public Folder are the only files shared, unless you enable the Root account and
modify the config files for Samba. (Public folders under each users home folder are used
to share files among other users. The folders named Drop Box under the Public folders
are used to drop files and folders to other users.)
Each user on the Macintosh that submits orders to the Control Center must have the
Enable Windows File Sharing option enabled.
The Control Center must have access to the files that are selected from QuickDisc Multi-
Platform.
Mount a Volume folder to a Windows shared file. You can mount a Windows share by typing
smb://computerName/shareName or smb://IP Address/share name using the Finder or
typing it in the connect to dialog box under the Go menu option. For information about how
to create a volume folder, see the process on page 15.
14
Chapter 3 Setup scenarios
-
Important! If you manually type in the path and choose to use the computer name instead of
IP Address, then you must use the Computer Name when installing the clients.
If you manually type in the path and choose to use the IP Address instead of the Computer
Name, then you must use the IP Address when installing the clients.
If you use the Connect To option under the GO menu and browse to the computer you are
connecting to, you must use the IP Address during the installation of the clients.
If you connect to a mounted volume using an IP address or browse to the computer name in
the connect to server option, you can use a Computer Name during the installation of the
clients; however, you will need to use the Root account to modify the HOSTS file. See page
16 for information about how to modify the HOSTS file. Modifying the HOSTS file only works
when NetInfo is not used to configure the network settings.
After the command runs, the folder that you selected will contain the files that are on
\\computer2\share.
3. Enable the Root Account.
a. Open the NetInfo program located in the >Applications>Utilities folder.
b. Click on the padlock and enter your password.
c. From the Security menu, select Enable Root User.

Example: Share a folder named mystuff located at the following location on the hard
drive /applications/mystuff using a share name of stuff. Enter the following information in
the smb.conf file.
[mystuff]
path = /applications/mystuff
public = yes
only guest = no
writable = yes
printable = no
After you reboot the computer from a Windows PC, you can see a new share named
mystuff.
Tip: Configure the user permissions so that a user logging on from Windows has
permission to access this folder.
5. Modify the Hosts file. The Hosts file is used to map a NetBIOS ComputerName to an IP
address. When a client tries to connect to a remote computer using a ComputerName, it is
able to resolve the name to a specific IP address.
a. Log on as the root user account.
b. Open the TextEdit program.
c. From the File menu, select Open.
d. Type the path to the Hosts file /etc/smb.conf .
e. Select Open.
f. On a new line in the file, enter the IP address of the computer followed by a space and
then the ComputerName for the IP address you entered. It should look like this:
202.253.222.1 Server1
6. Select Save and close the document. Now, when you connect to a computer named Server1,
it will point to the IP address 202.253.222.1.
Tip: If you installed the Rimage Software Suite using computer names and you are having
trouble, try using the IP address to fix the problem.
