Middle School and High School Camps


The business office is receiving payments for the camps taking place March 15 - 17. Information has gone home via
SOIS mail and hardcopies were given to students. Please contact Mr. Mecklem if you have questions. Groups will
be visiting Hiroshima, North Star Alpine lodge in Nagano and Animal Rescue Kansai among other locations. The
grade 11 students will be helping at the SOIS School of Hope in Cambodia from March 12 - 18 as part of the IB
Community, Activity and Service program.

Elementary School Updates


Parents are reminded to register online on Moodle for Three-way Conferences taking place on Friday March
3. There will be no classes for elementary students on that day.
On Friday March 10 the Junior Sabers elementary basketball team will be visiting the Osaka YMCA
International School for a day of friendly basketball games.
We would like to thank all parents who contributed to the Language Week. In Wednesdays assembly it was
heart warming to hear the voices of our community sing in 16 different mother tongues. We hope to get video of
the event online soon.

Upcoming Events
Senri International School high school graduation takes place next Saturday March 4 at 10:00 AM in the
gymnasium. The Japanese school year is coming to a close and the end of the winter trimester marks the end of
the SIS school year. The SIS middle school graduation ceremony will take place on Wednesday March 15.

Dr. Shunichi Ishihara from the Australian National University is presenting Characteristics of Japanese
Language Tuesday February 28 at 12:35 PM in room 319. The linguistics professor is a former colleague of
SIS science teacher Kono sensei. The talk is open to SOIS parents.

The library will be closed March 15-17 for inventory.

The middle school boys soccer team will be playing in the WJAA championship hosted by Canadian Academy
next Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4. The middle school girls basketball team will be playing at Marist
Brothers International School in Suma on the same days. Good luck to the Sabers as they finish their winter
sports seasons!

OIS is hosting the Kansai Round of the World Scholars Cup April 29-30. English speaking students from all
over Kansai are invited to participate in the competition. You can register at scholarscup.org/calendar.

Middle school and high school students performed last week in the winter concerts in our theatre. The high
school concert band is in the photo on the left and three OIS middle school student Achuta, Owen and Mao
were featured performers in one of the winds ensembles.
