Group work This is the only group CIE 343 laboratory for

the entire semester. The group lab report is the long full
report. Please see the Syllabus for details of the report.
Please also see document named CIE 343 Groups in Lab
folder of Course Documents on UBlearns for your group
membership.
Lab times Subgroups 3 and 4 need to come to 120
Jarvis at the beginning of the section. Subgroups 1 and
2 need to come to 120 Jarvis 50 minutes after the
beginning of the sections start.
Submission deadline As stated in the syllabus and in
class, all labs are due exactly one week after they are
conducted at the beginning of the section. Please note,
UBlearns does not allow for variable submission deadlines
for different sections. The deadlines set on Safe Assign on
UB learns are not relevant. Please ignore them. The one-
week deadline may be extended only by course instructor
for reasons such as exams and other major events. These
rules apply to all labs, including this one.
Since our first midterm will likely be held on March 8, the
deadline for this lab will likely be extended. Please watch
for instructors announcement about the midterm and
this lab deadline.
Management plan Before your lab starts, you need to
decide who is going to measure time (that person needs
to bring a phone with a stopwatch app), take records in
the Notebook, take headloss measurements, collect water
for measuring volume and adjust the valve to change the
flowrate. These roles must be reported in your
Management Plan that needs to be included in your lab
report (within the page limits specified in the Syllabus).
The Plan must also contain distribution of work (who is
going to do what), identification of group leader who is
responsible for collecting information and uploading final
reports, methods of sharing information (email or similar),
your internal deadlines, procedures for dealing with non-
performance and subpar performance, and final
contributions of all group members. This Plan cannot
exceed 2 pages and must be included in your final report.
Notebooks First draft of the group notebook will be
created by the group member who is responsible for
taking records. This notebook WILL NOT be submitted to
the TA. Instead, the notebook needs to be copied so each
group member gets one copy. Each group member will
supplement the group notes with individual observations
(such as possible causes of errors and other relevant
comments). These individual copies will be submitted in
class next Friday at 9:00AM (beginning of the class). As
stated in the Syllabus, Notebook grades will be individual
and will make 20% of the Lab grade. The remaining 80%
will be divided between Management Plan, technical
content and presentation.
Lab number This is CIE 343 Lab 2. Please make sure you
submit your report to the correct Safe Assign item (and
the correct class).
