Bloomingdale Historic Vote Cover LTR 2017 02 27
The Bloomingdale Civic Association (BCA) Historic Preservation Committee (BCAHPC) has
worked for the past year and one half to poll Bloomingdale residents on their views of retaining
its historical character and culture. As a result, we reviewed various existing programs available
to District residents to enable the preservation of the neighborhoods heritage. The BCAHPCs
research focused on the merits of the updated R-4 Zoning, permits, and historic district. This
endeavor was the result of both the BCA Bylaws that commissions the formation of such a
committee, and a growing community concern regarding incompatible development (pop-ups)
that potentially threatens the architectural character of Bloomingdale.
As a part of this study, the BCAHPC conducted several public outreach events, including town
hall meetings, workshops, a (fundraiser) Happy Hour, and a progressive dinner party, in an
effort to solicited feedback personally from you our neighbors, and solicited feedback from
other residents living in DC historic districts; and, inform you on the options available to
preserve Bloomingdales historical character. We sincerely hope weve done our job! It was
through these outreach efforts and individual conversations that we heard from (some of) you,
and gathered input that has significantly contributed to the BCAHPCs final recommendation:
Special Zoning for Bloomingdale to Preserve Streetscape View. We hope you were able to
attend at least one of our sponsored events. In the case that you were unavailable to
participate in these events, we offer you one last opportunity before forwarding our results to the
ANC.
As Bloomingdale residents, it is important for you to know that the collective voice of the
entire community is essential to determining how Bloomingdale retains its historical character.
We need to hear from Bloomingdale property owners. Your feedback on what happens to your
property is crucial its the most important part of the exploratory process.
Its never too late for your voice to be heard! As we conclude our study, this comprehensive
vote to allow Bloomingdale homeowners an opportunity to weigh-in on deciding the
approach to retain Bloomingdales historical character is contained in this package. Please
return your vote ballot and indicate your choice. Mail it to the Bloomingdale Civic
Association, P.O. Box 1438, WDC 20013. Responses must be received by April 30, 2017, in
order to be counted.
Sincerely,
