3rd Grade Pre Assessment: Standard:Addition and Subtraction Date: 10/26/16

Step One: Collect and chart data

Step Two: Analyze data and prioritize needs

Proficient:
Strengths Next Steps
- accurately regroups, knows basic facts, works accurately with introduce and practice 4-digit addition
3-digit numbers

Close to Proficient:
Strengths Weaknesses
- understands the process basic fact errors, misses problems with 3 addends

Far to Go but Likely to Meet Proficiency:

Strengths Weaknesses
can add without regrouping doesnt regroup or add the number carried in the correct place
value, basic fact knowledge, misses problems with 3 addends

Far to Go:
Strengths Weaknesses
- does not understand addition with or without regrouping, lacks
basic fact knowledge and place value skills (transfers numbers
incorrectly)

Step Three: Set SMART goal

The percentage of 3rd grade students scoring proficient or higher when adding and subtraction
within 1000 will increase from XX% to XX% by XX as measured by the posttest administered
on....

Step Four: Select common instructional strategies

Instructional Strategy Selected:
Fact fluency drills (iPad, flashcards, fact triangles, Rocket Math, XtraMath)
One-on-one/small group work with the skill
Whole-class white board work
Place-value mat and base-10 blocks
Task cards with QR codes
Moby Max
Math Regrouping app (addition and subtraction)
Number Pieces app (base-10 blocks)
Paper practice for regrouping (prescribed boxes for numbers)

Proficient and Above(Frequency and Group Setting): Meet with teacher once per week for ten to fifteen
minutes. Daily math computation problems involving 4-digit numbers for addition with regrouping.
Additional activities may include advanced Moby Max lessons and/or task cards with 4-digit numbers.

Close to Proficient (Frequency and Group Setting): Meet with teacher one time per week and
associate one time per week. Daily math computation problems with 3-digit numbers for addition with
regrouping using white boards. Daily math fact practice.

Far to Go but Likely (Frequency and Group Setting): Meet with teacher two times per week for ten to
fifteen minutes, and then one to two times per week with an associate. Daily math computation
problems with 2-digit numbers for addition, and then 3-digit numbers for addition with regrouping.
Students will transfer place value chart to problems on the sheet. These sheets will also utilize
prescribed boxes for regrouping. Daily math fact practice.

Far to Go (Frequency and Group Setting): Meet with teacher four to five times per week for ten to
fifteen minutes. Daily math computation problems with 2-digit numbers for addition, and then 3-digit
numbers Will move from addition without regrouping to addition with regrouping. Students will use
place value mats and base-10 blocks as manipulatives. Eventually move students to paper-pencil
practice. Students will transfer place value chart to problems on the sheet. These sheets will also utilize
prescribed boxes for regrouping. Daily math fact drills.

Step Five: Determine results indicators

Basically this step finalizes all of the work of the process and writes official statements of what will take
place during the instruction of the unit. Kind of like sealing the deal to ensure that everyone commits to
using the strategies discussed around the prioritized content.
