Big Ideas or Essential Questions: Two letters can spell one sound. I can spell words by
segmenting and blending sounds. Ch is a digraph.

Curriculum Standard: CC.1.1.1.D Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills
in decoding words. (Identify common consonant digraphs, final-e, and common vowel teams)

Lesson Objective: The students will be able to identify the ch digraphs in 8 out of 10 words.
NS and TS will be able to identify the ch digraphs in 6 out of 10 words.

Assessment: The students will circle the digraph ch in a word list from the smartboard.

Anticipatory Set: Watch and listen to the ch song Youtube video.


Procedures:
1. Following the anticipatory set, have the children practice making the /ch/ sound.
2. Give examples.
3. Ask the students to come up with words that have the /ch/ sound.
4. Have the students complete the smartboard pages.
5. Do assessments.
6. Collect assessments.

Adaptations: read directions aloud to all students; small group instruction for all students;
letters stored in different shapes to indicate different types of letters for JS; different colored
fonts to indicate different types of letters for BM, JT, AS, AC, TS, CW, and NS; adult assistance
for AS and TS (teacher or TSS); shortened objectives for NS and TS
Closure: Exit ticket: make the /ch/ sound and give one example
