PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT

I as Founder, President and Chairman of International Conference on Recent Advances in Composite

Materials (ICRACM) series wish to put on record my grateful thanks to the entire participant who have shown
their keen interest in the theme of the conference. Since, advanced composites are enabling materials for a
number of demanding energy efficient and eco-friendly applications in aerospace, power generation, ground
transportation, nuclear and chemical industries. These materials have unique properties such as high strength,
high stiffness, long fatigue life, low density, and adaptability to the intended functions. Significant
achievements have been made worldwide in the design, development, manufacturing, and application of these
materials in recent years and considerable innovative research is still continuing to address technical and
economic challenges.
The worldwide participation and recognition led to grand success of the each series of International Conference
on Recent Advances in Composite Materials (ICRACM), which were held at various places; ICRACM-2004
held at BHU, Varanasi, India in December 2004. ICRACM-2007 held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, India
in February 2007. ICRACM-2010 held at Limoges University, Limoges, France in December 2010. ICRACM-
2013 held at International Centre, Goa, India in February 2013. Due to some mis-understanding, ICRACM-
2016 was not organized at Bruno, Czech Republic in June, 2016 under the Chairmanship of Prof. Josef Jancar.
Therefor, ICRACM-2016 has been rescheduled to organize at KL University, Vijayawada, Guntur, AP, India
from 6-8th February 2017 under the Chairmanship of Prof. B. Nageswara Rao. The major goal of ICRACM
series are to bring academician and researchers together in various disciplines from all over the world to share
knowledge and exchange their views leading to industrial applications of composite materials.
Most of the ICRACM series have been supported by AOARD-AFOSR, Roppongi, Tokyo, Japan and GONR,
Singapore due to unique dimension and significance demands in composite community. These supports are
predicted on the belief that scientific and technical advances are strongly promoted by direct interactions among
a diverse set of researchers and technologists. Finally, I am very gratefull to all of my friends, who have joined
the ICRACM-2004, ICRACM-2007, ICRACM-2013 and ICRACM-2016 meeting and presented their
composite experiences for the benefits of young composite researchers after travelling long distances from
abroad. I shall be highly oblised their kind supports for the grand success of ICRACM series. Also, organising
committee is gratefully acknowledging financial support of Director/ Manager, AOARD-AFOSR, Tokyo, Japan
and Officer Incharge, ONR, Singapore to organize ICRACM Series for the academic benefits and interaction of
Asian countries young composite researchers with the renouned world level scientists.
Also, I would like to bring to your kind notice that Department of Mechanical Engineering / BENCO /
Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is going to complete 100 years in 2019. Therefore, I am planning to
organize Sixth International Conference on Recent Advances in Composite Materials (ICRACM-2019)
from 25-28th February 2019 at Swatantrata Bhavan, BHU, IIT (BHU), Varanasi in lieu of CENTENARY
YEAR (2019) of BENCO / Department / Institute.
It is now our turn as organiser of this prestigious conference to reciprocate and propogate encourgement and
dream of our founder Pt. Mahamana Madan Mohan Malviya ji under the umbrella of Serbvidya ki rajdhani. I am
quite sure that deliberations made during four days will open new horigons of frontier research for the need of
recent requirements of low cost houses, energy storages, fuel cell and other applications.

About the Institute:
Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi has formerly been known as the Banaras Engineering College
(BENCO), the College of Mining and Metallurgy (MINMET), the College of Technology (TECHNO) and the
Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU). Its establishment is intimately linked with that of
the Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The first convocation ceremony at BHU was held on 19 January 1919.
The Chancellor of the University, Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar of Mysore who had come to preside over and
address the convocation, performed the opening ceremony of the Banaras Engineering College (BENCO)
Workshop buildings. An Artisan Course was started on 11 February 1919. BHU has the credit of first starting
degree classes in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, metallurgy and Pharmaceutics, thanks to the
foresight of its founder, Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya. The Lok Sabha passed The Institutes of Technology
(Amendment) Act, 2011 on 24 March 2011 and the Rajya Sabha on 30 April 2012, thereby formalizing the IIT
status of the Institute. The Bill was signed by the President of India on 20 June 2012 and notified in the gazette
on 21 June. As we know that our institute is going to complete 100 years in 2019. During 100 years of journey,
our alumni members achieved various top most position and served the nation as well as out side the nation in
terms of advancement in technology. Therefore, its our responsibility to celebrate centenary year for the peace
and dream of our founder Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya ji.
About the Banaras City:
Varanasi, the holy city of India, is also known by the name of Kashi and Benaras. Kashi, the city of Moksha for
Hindus since centuries, is known for its fine-quality silks, 'paan' and Benares Hindu University and Avimukta of
the ancient days; Varanasi is the most popular pilgrimage point for the Hindus. One of the seven holiest cities,
Varanasi is the oldest city of the world. Varanasi is more than 3000 years old and is famous as the city of
temples. In Varanasi, there are temples at every few paces. Looking at the number of temples in Varanasi, it is
hard to believe that a large number of them were demolished during the medieval times. Jyotirlinga Visvanatha
Temple or Golden Temple, rebuilt in 1776, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Jnana Vapi well (meaning 'Well of
Wisdom) is believed to have been dug by Lord Shiva himself. It is believed that the majestic Alamgir mosque
has replaced one of the most ancient shrines known as the temple of Bindu Madhava. The thirty-three hundred
million shrines fill one with awe and wonder with sheer numbers.

Varanasi is well connected and accessible to major Indian cities and tourist spots. There are daily domestic
flights to and from Varanasi to several cities in India likes New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai,
Hyderabad etc. Apart from the state owned Indian Airlines, there are many private air taxi operators that offer
their services from Varanasi to other Indian cities. In fact, the daily flights on Delhi-Agra-Khajuraho-Varanasi
route are quite popular among the tourists.
Since Varanasi lies in the heartland of the North Indian plains, it is well connected to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai
and other parts of India by train. There are two railway stations in Varanasi, the Kashi Junction and the
Varanasi Junction (also known as Varanasi Cantonment). Rajdhani Express from Delhi or from Calcutta passes
through Varanasi too. One can also catch trains from Mughalsarai, just 10 km south of Varanasi.

About the ICRACM Conference:

Composite materials have unique advantages over monolithic materials, such as high
strength, high stiffness, long fatigue life, low density, and adaptability to the intended
function of the structure. Significant achievement has been made in the
design/development and applications. Considerable innovative research is still continuing
for the development of continuous fibre composites and particulate composites for critical
applications. Structural requirements demand ultimate and reliable composite material
performance to react to global static and dynamic external and component loads.
Therefore, ICRACM-2019 aims at bringing together academicians and researchers in
various disciplines to share knowledge and exchange views, for useful industrial
applications of composite materials. The conference will facilitate discussion on the latest
trends in the entire gamut of composite materials. The deliberations will certainly be
helping researchers for embarking upon newer aspect design and development of various
types of composites.
