ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARREST SPRINGFIELD POLICE OFFICER

FOR OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT AND BATTERY

SPRINGFIELD -- On February 27, 2017, the Illinois State Police (ISP) was requested by
the Springfield Police Department (SPD) to investigate a report of an altercation
between an on-duty SPD Officer and a 19 year-old male from Springfield.

The officer had been dispatched to a residence during the evening of the 27th to
investigate a domestic disturbance. A 19 year-old male (not the suspect from the
Domestic Disturbance) became upset, and a verbal altercation ensued, which led to a
physical confrontation between the officer and the male. The 19 year-old male was not
arrested. The incident was captured on the officers body worn camera, as well as
another responding officer's body worn camera.

The video evidence was provided by the Springfield Police Department to ISP
investigators, who then consulted with the Sangamon County State's Attorney's office.
The officer was arrested at 6:00 a.m. on February 28, 2017, at the Springfield Police
Department on charges of Battery and Official Misconduct.

Battery is a Misdemeanor, punishable by possible imprisonment of up to one year at a

facility other than a penitentiary. Official Misconduct is a Felony, punishable by possible
imprisonment of more than one year at a penitentiary.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.

All future media releases related to this incident will be handled by the Sangamon
County State's Attorney's Office.

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until
proven guilty in a court of law.
