I am a Hindu, I don't follow what RSS says but I apprise what RSS does most of the
time, especially when the nation needs. Apart from the points which were mentioned
by Tapas Kant Tiwari and Tanmay Jain in their respective answers. My grandfather
was a senior leader in Congress and had cordial relations with Pt. Jahwahar Lal Nehru
and my father is an ardent follower of BJP so I was fortunate enough to know about
the history and good and bad of both the associations. But both were always
appreciative of RSS work.

Recently, they were instrumental in the Uttrakhand relief and Jammu Kashmir Relief.
RSS not only helped in the relief work but also donated the money to the ood
victims. The RSS Swayamsevaks spent months away from their families to help the
ood victims both in Uttarakhand and in Jammu and Kashmir. They set up many
oces in the ood aected areas and also set up dierent samitis to help them. They
were actively involved in identifying people stranded in the ood-devastated areas
and evacuate them to safer places. In Kashmir, they helped the army jawans in
temporary constructions and evacuating the people to relief camps. Here are some

My father tells us the story of a time when Bihar was hit by plague. People were dying
on such a large scale that there were very few left to do the proper cremation of the
dead. The lucky ones were not even ready to touch or go near the dead body(even of
their own kith and kin) and as a result corpses were rotting and because of that other
diseases were spreading in the region. My grandfather, took upon himself that the
dead's get their proper respect. But the task was way too herculean for him and no one
in the village came forward to help. He wrote to RSS oce and guess what instead of
reply for the letter, a dozen of swayamsewaks were in our village in less than 15 days.
They, along with my grandfather, carried the dead bodies in hand carts (thela gadi as
we call in Hindi) 25 km away for the village and gave them proper cremation. They
had to make several rounds everyday and they did this for 7 days straight. After
nishing the job here, they moved on to a nearby village to repeat the same process. It
was not their job, it was not their burden, but it was their country and hence they did
it without caring about their health, their families and also without expecting
anything(not even recognition) in return. These unsung, undecorated heroes are
selessly providing such services to the nation and are completely devoted to the
country.

In the answer to your question sir, RSS, has made this India, and they have worked
from their day of formation till now, to ensure that the country stays. In a way my
father's life was saved by those swayamsevaks and hence here I am writing this
answer. Of course they make some of the remarks which even I don't agree but
everyone knows for sure that they are the most patriotic bunch of people (besides
army of course) that you will nd in modern India.

Tanmay Jain has very well bulleted their contribution, but besides that you must also
understand how much emotionally involved they are with the development of this
country and also preserving its heritage. If you could spare some time please do visit
any Saraswati Vidya Mandir School. Then you'll understand how they are
contributing and what they are contributing in making this country a better place.
Edit 1: Please note that, since I have written this answer that doesn't mean I support
everything that RSS does. I have also written for Are the statements being passed by

No it won't.
Why do we always ignore the good things about these organisations?
There was a park in front of my house in New Delhi. Most of my childhood was spent
playing in that park. It was used for the society's weddings, festival gathering, etc.
Slowly a sewage line leakage started under the park & it converted into a smelly
marsh. During rains the park would ll up & the following season will rot with the
smell of the water till at least 10 blocks. Our window opened right into the park & our
house smelt like poop for several years in that season. We personally tried to get rid of
the lth but could do less. We wrote to the local authorities, the senior society ocials
even tried to visit them. They even hired private bodies to clean the park but due to
permission issues in digging, no one could do it.
Finally my cousin who is an RSS representative (he had recently joined then)
connected with his team & the very next morning a bunch of young boys with other
men came along & started digging. The MCD sweepers working there asked them to
stop digging without permission & called their supervisor. The RSS people called up
their head or someone who immediately called a minister or MLA who gave
permission to do whatever they were doing. (A couple of guys showed up to check
whether any electricity or gas lines were there; I don't know who they were). They
xed the sewer leakage in a day, cleaned the dry areas of the park, did a little bit of
plantation & returned in a week after the park dried up to cover the dirty areas with
mud & do more plantation. After that they visited every Saturday & did some exercise
sessions there for a month. Many young kids used to join them.

This is far from truth. I as a kid used to take part in RSS shakha meeting and we were
never told to disrespect other religions. I also studied in Saraswati shishu mandir,
school run by RSS ideologues, trust me our school had kids from other religions and
they were happy about it. They never had to recite slokas and they are exempted from
having tilak, which is a compulsion for other kids. Only thing RSS is so fanatic about
and opposes vehemently is the glorication of invaders, who ever they may be and
what ever good deeds(as some claim) they have done. Read the following translation
of sangh prayer, it only preaches about nationalism and being committed to your
country which in no way detrimental to any country.

brought me up in happiness. May my life, O great and blessed Holy Land, be laid
down in Thy Cause. I bow to Thee again and again.We the children of the Hindu

My apologies for asking the following questions, but:
1. What prompted you to ask this question?
2. Why do you think that the RSS is all set to destroy India?
3. What is your notion of India that you think will get destroyed?
4. I hesitate to ask the next set of questions, but having seen a lot of such
questions as the one I am answering, in Quora, I ask
a. Do you ask this question because you think the RSS is a Hindu
organization? Or maybe you think it is an organization teeming with
fundamentalist Hindus, who want to eradicate everything non-Hindu? If
that had been the case, with a Hindu population in excess of 80%,
wouldnt it have already happened? Or worse, wouldnt it have resulted
in a civil war?
b. Again a controversial question, but the fact of the answer is easily proven
accurate with publicly available data. Despite innumerable Hindu-
Muslim riots (see a list here , and read the follow up story/investigation
in each case) that have been subsequently proven to have been caused by
either Muslims (e.g., Bombay riots 1993, Godhra 2002, ), or by political
parties (e.g., Hyderabad 1990) seeking power how often have the RSS
actually instigated violence/riots? Dont take my word for it. Check it out.
c. Another point if there are right wing Hindu organizations hell bent on
communal violence that could potentially dismember the country, how
do you explain this data ? Specically, read down the 4th column in
this list of massacres in India.
5. All these lead me to believe that you have been conditioned to dislike an
organization, without material basis. You hate it simply because you have
been programmed by our education system, the media, and so-called
thought leaders to dislike it.
6. I will even hazard a guess that you have been conditioned to think that
everything Hindu is old fashioned, pagan, irrational and unscientic. I was. I
went to a top notch Jesuit school where this was openly preached. So, I dont
blame you. Some people even hate themselves for being Hindu. I have
friends who have quietly converted to Buddhism because it was not much
dierent from Hinduism in philosophy, and didnt quite carry the stigma.
7. May I suggest that as a rational and mature human being, you take a closer
honest look at the premises that led you to pose the question.
Let me concede the RSS is not an organization of angels. But I also think they are
much maligned. The RSS cadre consists of simple people from villages and small
towns, and when you speak to them (I suggest you do), the simplicity of their mission
comes across not the chilling simplicity of a wannabe suicide bomber aspiring to
enter Paradise but the endearing innocence of simple souls wanting nothing else
but to be there to protect their country and help their countrymen these are the
simple Indians whose eyes tear up when the national anthem plays. The RSS is made
up of the very people who are willing to put up with long queues in banks and at
ATMs to support the government ght black money. The RSS comes from the same
stock as the people who gave up their gold to help our armies ght our wars.
And know what? Whenever there has been a calamity, the RSS has always been there

Whether it is a natural disaster like the one in Uttarakhand or Jammu and Kashmir or
even Nepal for that matter or a man made terrorist attack, the so called "right wing
extremists" known as swayamsevaks of the RSS will be among the rst to arrive at the
site and help those in distress.
During the partition when millions of people migrated from Pakistan and came to
India, it was the RSS that provided these people with food. It was the RSS along with
others that liberated Dadra and Nagra Havelli from the Portuguese, which provided
the motivation for the liberation movement of Goa to gain pace. Right now,
everybody is appreciating the work of the Indian Army and the National Disaster
Management Authority for the relief works taking place in Nepal but no one is
bothered to mention the work the RSS is doing over there. But it doesn't matter to the
RSS swayamsevaks. They don't care whether people praise them or criticise them.
They will always do their work.
Regarding the question, no way in hell will the RSS destroy India. Rather, it'll be the
rst civil defence organisation to defend India against those who want to destroy our
nation. If I had to describe the RSS in a quote, then it would be like this
"It's the hero that India deserves, but not the one it needs one right now. So we'll
hunt it because it can take it. Because it's not a hero. It's a silent guardian.. a
watchful protector.. a dark knight"

My own views on this topic, though looks like the one who questioned likes to shut
o..
Good points...
*RSS can never be anti country..so they can not destroy India.
*This is the only group which teaches moral values to the entrants in the group right
from the beginning. The patriotism too is a part of that teaching. History of Bharat (
Not India) is taught to every one.
* Ex- RSS people run many program for rural kids education , games and other social
activities.
*Simple, discipline,treat every member equal, keeping Guru- Shishya tradition alive,
respectful to society , dedicated.
* As an Hindu myself, I nd they are the only group which strengthen my belief and
try to protect my believe from conversion.
( I recall, long back an international delegate in YMCA asked me as to why Hindus do
not support RSS/ VHP when these are the only organisation based on Hindu believe ,
and when some one asks a Hindu what is Hinduism, he proudly says its not a religion,
its a way of life ?)
* They can never be anti- national like other groups based on religions like
Christianity which does get funding from CIA for anti national activities.( The

Bad Points,
*They are becoming outdated.
* With pseudo secularism spreading in the country they must change their strategy. ( I
nd my own friends inviting fathers and Islamic clergies in social active meetings but
they refrain from calling RSS/ VHP people).
*If they have strong believe in Hinduism, they must come out openly to construct a
structure which can control anti Hindu acts by any one, even their own cadre. ( I nd
that Hinduism does'nt have a place of violence , even vocal one), the construction of
temples on encroached land etc.
They must try to remove inequality, caste system and all those wrong ideas which are
spoiling the good image of Hinduism.
* Involve women folks too, which I nd have no place in RSS, very surprising as I have
heard in their gathering praise for Jhansi ki Rani.
PS: For record, I have never been in RSS or a supporter as I believe in Vasudev
Kutumbkam ...and like a typical Hindu want soem Avtar to protect my faith.

Madhok:

Jeet (win) Ya (or) Haar (Defeat) is a novel based on the Tribal Raiders invasion of J&K
State in 1947. Its author Prof. Balraj Madhok claims that the novel is based on the
actual incidents, events he had recorded regularly in his daily diary. Actual names of
some characters have been changed to protect their identity as the novel was rst
published in 1953. Real incidents have been dramatized to give it the shape of a novel.
Many of the events narrated by the author have been corroborated by independent
observers who were witness to the era. Sh. Meher Chand Mahajan took over as Prime
Minister of J&K State on 15th October 1947. His shrewdness, administrative capability
and political foresight were well acknowledged even by his adversaries. His
appointment unnerved Pakistanis who felt that their game-plan to grab Kashmir may
run into rough weather with Mahajan at the helm. The Pakistanis were working
overtime to create vast subversion network in the J&K State to prepare the ground for
external invasion. They were trying to buy the loyalties of their co-religionists in state
forces, training a section of local population for subversion in Jammu province. They
were also dumping arms and ammunition in selective areas of Jammu region. All this
was being planned meticulously, keeping the strategic details and the D-Day a top
secret. While all this was being done the senior ocers of State forces were kept in
good humour that everything was hunky dory. Prof. Balraj Madhoks well-written
novel throws light on all this. It also covers the actual invasion and the authors
escape in the aftermath of invasion. Many canards were spread by his political
adversaries to distort his role and twist events to suit them politically. A dispassionate
history detailing the patriotic role of all those forces who worked overtime to see the
Kashmir remains with India during those, fateful days still eludes us. Haar Ya Jeet
will obviously help in removing many cobwebs of confusion and facilitate in
reconstructing the authentic history of that phase.

PROF. MADHOKS ROLE:

Balraj MadhokProf. Madhok was among the rst 15 RSS workers of Undivided Punjab.
He stood rst in MA (History) in Punjab University. He came to Srinagar in 1944 and
was appointed Vice-Principal of DAV College. Prof. Madhok was also chief of RSS
organisation in Kashmir. A dynamic organiser Prof. Madhok was able to create a
group of 250 cadres in Srinagar within a few years. During his stay in Lahore he had
also been working in coordination with RSS workers in Rawalpindi district, Peshawar,
Hazara, Abbotabad, Lahore etc. Due to his contacts with Sh. Meher Chand Mahajan
from Lahore days Prof. Madhok had direct access to higher-ups in Maharajas
administration. As per Prof. Madhoks testimony he harnessed all his contacts to
unearth the invasion conspiracy even as early as 9th October i.e. 12 days before the
actual invasion. Had his information been acted upon much of the death and
destruction could have been averted. The Maharajas administration would have been
on a rmer wicket to face the Raiders (read Pakistanis). But then these are ifs and
buts of history.

DR. S.K. ATRIS INFORMATION:

On October 8, 1947 Prof. Madhok got the rst clue regarding the intended invasion
from Dr. SK Atri. A medico from UP, Dr. Atri had been practicising medicine in
Srinagar for over two decades. He was an inuential and a renowned doctor in the
city. Some of his elderly Muslim clients who had po-Pak views had visited him in the
evening of 7th October and requested him to leave Srinagar along with his family at
the earliest because Pakistan would be invading Kashmir soon and members of the
minority community would be soft targets. A little scared Dr. Atri took Prof. Madhok
into condence the following day.

PUNJAB MUSLIM HOTEL:

During those days Punjab Muslim Hotel at Pratap Chowk (now called Lal Chowk) was
known to be the rendezvous of Pak spies and agents. Prof. Madhok took a few of his
top cadres into condence and decided out a strategy to dig out more details about
the Pak gameplan. He decided to utilize the services of some cadres who had come to
Srinagar from Punjab and NWFP. Prof Madhok managed to inltrate his condents
into Punjab Muslim Hotel. Within two days he was able to unearth major elements in
the Pakistani conspiracy. He got precise details about how Pakistan was subverting
loyalties of a section of the Maharajas forces. Many top ocers at Civil and Military
level were working for Pakistan. These included Col. Adalat Khan, Ch. Faizullah
Khan, Wazir Wazarat Baramulla. Prof. Madhok also learnt that invasion was to come
from the direction of Abottabad, the invaders were to include Pak army personnel in
civies and Pathan tribesmen. The Maharaja was to be taken captive, and then
Pakistan would make declaration about Kashmirs accession with Pakistan. Prof.
Madhok says that soon after collecting this vital information he managed to convey it
to Maharaja and Brig. Kashmir Singh, the Chief of State Forces. Madhok made a
suggestion to disarm the section of state forces whose loyalities had raised a question
mark.

HARISH BHANOT:

Two days later Harish Bhanot, RSS Chief of Abbotabad reached Srinagar. After
partition Bhanot had been working underground as a RSS activist in Abbotabad
under the cover name of Nawab of Boi. He had links with top ocials of Pakistan and
had gathered vital information from them about the invasion. Before the cover could
blow o Bhanot managed to reach Srinagar by Car. On 16th of October, Prof. Madhok
apprised Sh. Meherchand Mahajan about the information brought by Bhanot. Prime
Minister Mahajan in view of limited strength of state forces made a request to Prof.
Madhok to lend his helping hand. On 17th October Brig. Kashmir Singh met Prof.
Madhok and informed him that details supplied by the latter have been found to be
true. The Brigadier also expressed helplessness of the government in acting upon the
information in view of limited troops at its disposal. Srinagar had just one company,
with loyalty of a good number of troops under doubt. Brig. Kashmir Singh also talked
about non-availability of arms and ammunition (which used to come via Rawalpindi
road) and petrol stocks. Three was no enough petrol for army trucks. Brig. Kashmir
Singhs another worry was that Col. Narayain Singh was refusing to accept the gravity
of the situation as related by Headquarters. The Brigadier asked Prof. Madhok to send
some of his own activists to Domel to convince Col. Narain Singh. Accordingly, Harish
Bhanot was sent on motorcycle to Domel on morning of 22nd October. At Uri he
learnt about the raiders attack and returned to Srinagar in the evening. A few hours
after Bhanot had left for Domel, Sh. Mangla Sein, a RSS Pracharak of Teetwal reached
Srinagar. He informed Prof. Madhok about raiders attack on Muzaarabad and told
him that non-Muslims were eeing towards Srinagar and Poonch to escape reprisals.
Bhanot later joined Hindustan Times as a columnist and belonged to an inuential
family. He lives in Chandigarh. Mangal Sein later became leader of opposition in
Haryana Assembly.

RSS HELP CALLED:

In the intervening night of 23/24 October, Maharajas ADC took Prof. Madhok to
Maharajas palace in Srinagar. The Maharaja was closeted with his Prime Minister and
Brig. Kashmir Singh. Sh. Meher Chand Mahajan talked about the grimness of the
situation, aggravated by desertions in State forces. The Prime Minister said that his
government expected Indian forces soon and asked Prof. Madhok to get his cadres so
that they could be of help in maintaining order in Srinagar. At that time Brig.
Rajender Singh was still holding on at Uri. While meeting was on the Maharaja
telephonically ordered Brigadier to hold on to the last man and the last breath. On 24
October, Prof. Madhok collected 200 workers at the premises of Arya Samaj, most of
them were college students. They were given two hours training in using 303 ries at
Badami Bagh. On 26th October, some groups of raiders had already positioned
themselves around Shalteng. Prof. Madhok had gone to Badami Bagh Cantt to know
whether Indian Army was coming in time or not. At 3 PM it was clear that Indian
forces were expected any moment. Soon after this news NC and Communist Workers
came out on streets of Srinagar for organising Civil Defence of the city. Same evening
200 RSS workers were put in 2-3 army trucks by Maharajas administration and
despatched to Shalteng to hold back raiders till the time Indian forces landed in
Srinagar. When the trucks reached Hari Singh High Street (Amirakadal) NC workers
intercepted them. They searched the RSS cadres and found most of their rie
magazines empty. The NC workers thrashed them, telling them that raiders would
lynch them within no time at Shalteng. The RSS workers were disarmed and asked to
disperse. Later, a mischievous rumour was oated that RSS plan to create mischief in
the city had been foiled. This mistrust later led to a bigger conict, which paved way
for Sheikh Abdullahs dismissal in 1953. Prof. Madhoks novel also makes a revelation
that Maharaja cancelled his visit to Bhimbar on 20th October on the basis of
information supplied by him. The Maharaja and his Prime Minister were on a tour of
Jammu region to take stock of the latest situation. Pakistan, having come to know
about it, had hatched a plan to attack Bhimber and take the Maharaja captive.

Its one of the largest NGO in the world. Their work is not of attack but of peace and
organisation. From the Himalayas to the great Oceans, the whole of Bharatvarsha is
its vast eld of work. They work with tremendous enthusiasm. Even RSS not believe
in cast system and they never ask about your surname. RSS is a backbone of India.
They are the true patriots of India. They stand with every adversity faced by country.
Yes you are right in a way that they are destroyer for them who have wrong intention
with our country.
Otherwise their work should be immensely appriciated.

I dont understand on what basis did you asked this question?? What RSS has done bad
to anyone that people always criticize such an organisation. RSS has been an active
participant in shaping our country in a good manner whereas there are various
people who live in our country belong to our country and should respect our country
are making various derogatory shameful and bad statements about our country, the
people of our country and even about our glorious Army that protects our country
from domestic and enemies of outside India.
Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi and Akbaruddin Owaisi who belongs to All India Majlis-e
Ittihad al-Muslimin in Hyderabad. The stated person has always been in the rst
place in criticizing each and every aspect of Indian Community. At a Speech at
Adilabad addressing 22,000 people made multiple comments against Hindus, Hindu
deities, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishva Hindu Parishad, Bharatiya Janata
Party, Narendra Modi and India. In his speech, Owaisi said that the 250 million Indian
Muslims needed only 15 minutes without the police to show one billion Hindus who is
more powerful. Punjab Kesari reported that Owaisi referred to the Hindus as
"impotent" and the Indian police as the "impotent army". He said that not even one
crore impotent men can together father one child. He said that these people (Hindus)
cannot face the Muslims, and whenever the Muslims start dominating the Hindus,
the impotent army (police) intervenes. Owaisi said that "we (Muslims) will not let you
(Hindus) live peacefully,"and added that the Muslims could "teach the rest of the
world a lesson".
I completely fail to understand why not questions are asked against such people who
never fail to criticize our India and the people of India and why always people who
have done good deeds in the past and have always thought about India's coming
future are unreasonably questioned.
Its really sad that this question appeared here with the fact that RSS has never done
bad to anyone in the past and don't have any intent on doing so in the coming future.

For instance, there is no natural calamity where RSS has not oered a helping hand
irrespective of ones religion or caste. One can also observe their (Rashtriya Swayam
Sevaks') seless involvement in addressing various social issues.

I used to attend a RSS shaka when I was young in Bangalore.
Not once did I witness hatred towards any religion.
We did hymn Hindu prayers, called out the date according to the Hindu calendar and
then played a few team sports like khokho, kabaddi, cricket etc.
RSS is not anti-muslim or anti-christian but its pro-hindu.
Sometimes when it takes up matters such as Conversion by missionaries, they are
projected as Anti minority.
Many of the top leaders in RSS are self proclaimed atheists. They view Hinduism as
a culture and philosophy rather than a theology.
But yes, as in any organization, there are a few extremes even in RSS. But its an
exception and not the norm.
If there is any organization in India that can be called "Non-Prot" it is RSS.

To answer this, let me share a personal experience.
Here's a story about my rst hand experience with RSS.
I hail from small town in Rajasthan where going to Shakha is a privilege, and you can
nd swayamsevaks almost in every other house. My town is perhaps one of them
where aspect of life is inuenced by RSS.
I am just conning it to a small town in Rajasthan, (Population of 20,000) and

nearby areas. For me, rural areas speak for the organization more than urban
areas.
What they normally (most of them) have in their house : Photo of Mother India
and Vivekananda (Man who gave India its national pledge), and some of them would
have photos of MS Golwalkar (He was 2nd leader of RSS)
Child marriages: Child marriages are not that uncommon in Rajasthan (Sadly, they
still happen), but I have never seen a RSS guys son/daughter getting married below
legally acceptable age.
Relief: If there is any calamity, that's the rst organization that comes to help, our
town had relatively little problems, everything was resolved and no strong arm
tactics. Due to their eorts, a common handpump was digged in streets when we were
under severe draught (It is dicult, as digging handpump often hits the rocks)
Discussions and deeds outside Shakha:If you sit near a typical RSS guy in my town,
you would nd the word "desh" most common in their usage. Even in weddings!
Some of them don't even use Colgate or other product of foreign companies until 21st
century (In 1996-97 I remember how they would go every house and give them list of
"swadeshi products", there was no pressure, just requests).
Weddings : By and large, They are modest, They take 21 rupees at the most (even
today) if you go in their kid's wedding and give them gifts, they will politely refuse
and take 1-21 rupees to show that they accept your "bhaint"(gift), Volunteers are
strongly against Child Marriage and dowry.
My rst day inside RSS shakha : After so many years around 2002-03(Not 100% sure
of the year, because of both gujarat riots and world cup memories inter-lapping), I
decided to really get into one, It was an honor for everyone, but I enjoyed playing
cricket, chess and reading, nevertheless I went in, I told my friend that I don't have
Ganvesh (attire of Swayamsevak), He said - Deshbhakti hi chahiye, Ganvesh to
baad main aa hi jaayega.
First was salutation to a circle, and then prayer Namaste sada vatsale
matrubhoomi
I was intrigued and that's where I asked one tough question, as I heard constant
references to the word "Hindu"
I asked one bhaiyaji, why only Hindu? Does RSS excludes others?
He said, everyone who pledges to defend mother India, and pledges absolute loyalty
is a Hindu for them.
Being a Kalam fan, I asked - Is Kalam a Hindu then for you?
Yes! - He shot back, and the discussion was over.
I went there for about 3 days, and I was happy, because it inspired me, and I got to
learn a lot. Thereafter even now when I go to town (like all other marwaris, i have left
rajasthan for a better life prospect), and interact with swaysevaks, they are intelligent,
and nice to talk to, and very polite. I have to wear halfpant, because rules of shakha
are same everyone! and I proudly do.
I feel that sometimes they talk outdated things, like swadeshi vidheshi, and wearing
the leather belt in spite talking about cow slaughter, but when I meet them, I get
convinced that they are very noble, and they surly wouldn't think twice before
laying out their lives for mother India.
By any standard, a typical shakha discussion goes as if you are Prime Minister's
oce.
In my town, they have started school for kids, especially girls, so that they don't leave
behind because of poverty, also they run campaign to ensure that girls don't leave
behind, and I am proud to tell you that my town which has least resources, has about
22 Schools! and most of them have some RSS connection!
RSS is so powerful that they can paralyze country's security, but they never would.
People often understate how many volunteers RSS have, I am sure they are far more
than what people "speculate"!
When the very foundation of RSS is rastra, then how can it destroy it. RSS can
destroy itself, but not the rastra, because they pledge everyday to protect India.

Hinduism is in danger.
And the biggest danger is from RSS and it's several oshoots. RSS is an extremely
conservative, regressive and patriarchal organization. It has little or no internal
democracy and only Hindu males can become members of RSS (Basic FAQ on
RSS ). So basically they don't recognize any other religious practice neither do they
recognize atheism. Most alarmingly, they don't even consider any woman to be
worthy of being part of RSS.
RSS have a very shady history in terms of it's contributions to Indian independence
movement and to social reform movements in India. They have never actively
participated in the independence struggle. Most of them were the so called
"constitutionalists" of the time. The were more interested in ghting the Muslims
than the British. RSS had a big role in most of the pre-independence Hindu-Muslim
riots. RSS was also a strong supporter of the "two nation" theory which resulted in
partition of India. At the time of partition RSS was protesting for giving the Rs. 55 cr
to Pakistan but they never protested against the partition itself.
RSS never supported any social reforms movements in India. In fact every time when
there was an attempt to impart social justice by the way of constitutional law, RSS
and its oshoots are the ones who oppose it even today. When Ambedkar drafted the
Hindu code bill (Hindu code bills ) which for the rst time provisioned for Hindu
women to be able to seek divorce, RSS protested vehemently against it. Even today, in
issues like section 377 of IPC, RSS and related organizations are the ones who are the
rst in opposing any changes.
Unfortunately the Hinduism which celebrates women as goddesses, where "Shakti" is

the origin of all spirit in universe, which talks about Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
(world family).... is being appropriated by such an organization. They are calling the
shots on what is Hindu and what is not Hindu. What is more Hindu and what is less
Hindu.
I would have to say that Hinduism is denitely in danger.

Destroy? No, India is far too stable to let an organization like the RSS destroy it. They
will continue to train a certain population in homophobia, misogyny, xenophobia and
communal jingoism. And we will have to deal with the political impact of that.
A lot of organizations help out in disaster reliefs irrespective of caste and religion, but
we don't put them on a pedestal. They do far too much damage to the Indian psyche
and the Indian frame of mind than they can make up for with volunteer work. Oh, are
they speaking up against the caste system? That would be impressive if this were
1920.
But no. We have a constitution that leaves very little to interpretation, one that is
welded in iron and steel. I think we're safe from annihilation.

It is the only organization that can save India. I have some members of my family (all
of them highly educated) associated with the organization. It is a patriotic
organization who have always provided seless service to the nation. All the members
associated with it truly believe in its ideology and practice it in their daily lives. It
teaches you discipline, self defence and mutual respect for fellow countrymen.
However, they are very rigid in their beliefs which I think sometimes works to their
disadvantage. Also, all the so called secular forces in India run propaganda campaigns
to malign the organisation's image (and I am sorry but the person asking this question
seems to be a victim of the same propaganda). Also, most of the issues that it raises
like conversion of Hindus etc. are not myths. You go to tribal parts of Jharkhand,
Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh etc. and you will see what RSS is talking about. But they
do sometimes fail to put forward their case properly.

Background : Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is a non prot and strictly

apolitical organisation. It is a big network of volunteers who belong to all
walks of life- decorated soldiers, distinguished civil servants, experts on
strategic aairs and so on. ( Note :It has nothing to do with hindu maha
sabha or fringe elements).
Objective : Sangh has a singular motto- Vande Matram ! (salutations to

mother land). Naturally, all its policies are pro India - irrespective of caste,

Well the answer to your question depends on which Idea if India your believe in.
To explain the above statement; every nation is an idea. For example, France is a
country for people who speak french. How ever, countries as old as France have
developed into a Multilingual, Multicultural society in the passage of time.
In its idea, India is a country where religious identity of the citizen does not matter to
the state. All cultures, castes, languages are welcome to live and thrive. The binding
theme of this country is Unity in diversity, without any overpowering inuence of any
religion, caste or language. (Now we should be adding class also to it)
RSS in its ideology, believes, that India is a "Hindi Rashtra", and culturally, their
should a dominance of Hindu ideology across the country. The degree of domination
diers from Interpretation of RSS constitution, done by its swayamsewaks and the 84
aliate organization, which range from educational Institutes, Political parties,
student bodies, cultural Organizations, and outright aggressive groups like Bajrang
dal.(Diicult to catagorize Bajrang Dal)
Their is no doubt about the commitment of RSS's cadres dedication and vigor towards
its vision. This cadre includes academicians, social workers, politicians and people
from dierent spheres. The another interpretation of this fact is, that it makes RSS
capable of executing it's vision of "Hindu Rashrta".
This cadre also gives them the capability to inuence what is taught in schools, policy
decisions, altering history, and thwarting any eort by anyone to breach the cultural
and moral code in the name of "bhartiya Sanskriti".
To conclude, RSS is an intelligent and committed organization, and they know how to
make their vision of "Hindu Rashtra" a reality. They also possess the cadre base of
their own, and their aliate organizations, which makes it possible for them, to
intervene in any situation, they feel is dierent, from their interpretation of "BHartiya
Sanskriti" (Book Launch, Painting Exhibition, Film Screening, Valantine's day or
whatever they feel like)
So, the answer to your question is, that YES RSS can destroy India as a country
envisioned in our constitution.
However, will they really be able to do it, with a supportive government is very
doubtful.

To answer your question in Short? NO, but only if you consider India as a Place for
Hindus (Followers of Sanathana Dharma). RSS is not even a bit interested in
Destroying a Hindu country (What they claim India is to be). But they are threat to the
integrity of the nation . Are threat to the diversity of the nation.
First thing rst >> RSS is not a saint Organisation as people are claiming in the
answer.
The group already has been banned few times in India from British rule to after
Indian independence. It was banned in 1948 after assassination of Gandhi, then
during National emergency and during Babari Masjid Demolition (does it rings the
bells?)
RSS was not purely a Social organisation since the beginning but involved in every
matter. RSS had to give in written that they will purely work as Social Organisation
and will not be involved in any communal activities to the ban to be lifted.
One of the funniest incident of RSS history is its introduction of cold drink. In 2009,
RSS claimed that western brands like Pepsi and Coca-Cola were corrupting
Indian culture, and introduced the cow urine soda Gau jal.

Jokes apart. Now, to counter the argument of people who said RSS is a patriotic org. It
would be great if they can point out Why RSS has been involved in following
activities?

RSS is pro Hindutva group. Any problem with it? No at all.
But, whenever their leader open their mouth most of the time they only spit venom
against the minority. By Doing this, they are only trying to create communal

I was so waiting for this question. Thank you for asking.
RSS and "destroy India" will never be in the same sentence. Or even in the same
article. People may point out the conversion factors, PDA factor and etc etc. They are
right to question so and so but why only those things? Why only taste the food and
not eat it all? Why are they not asking about the help RSS provided to the people
irrespective of their religion during the partition? I don't know the answer.
Also, RSS destroying India can be only INFERRED from the news we come across.
Media isn't implying anything. Also i haven't seen any elder against RSS? Than who
left? Obviously i won't target each and every youth but to support my case, let us say a
few. Like 1 in 10. But why do they dislike RSS?
Possibility is there that they have been harassed by the volunteers. They could have
been a victim of conversion or were apprehend while PDA.
1) As far as conversion is concerned, i will tell you a true story. Though it will be little
scratchy, do understand the emotion behind it. Koenjhar in Odisha. A group of tribal
people. A religious man encountered them for the rst time and asked for their belief
or faith. They replied that they don't know such thing exist. And than man returned
back. Amazed by their reply he decided to meet them again only to discover that they
are following a certain religion. It wasn't Hinduism. I know the religion but it is better
to not mention it. This event happened and is still happening but we are not aware of
it. These things happen in small quantity unlike RSS'. All RSS' fault is that it's a
humongous NGO. Point to be noted - RSS' doesn't convert the SIKHS,
BUDDHISTS, JAINS. WHY?
2) PDA - The following phrase is the universal truth. Each and every human being is
dierent. The common PDA is holding hands and cuddling. And RSS is never against
it. All they are against is the "Kissing part". We often compare this situation to the
western countries. Kissing should be legalized because it so in the USA. But i ask why?
Why is kissing so integral part of a relationship that too in Public? Well you can kiss in
your den. Can't you? Or is it not thrilling enough? When we say that not everyone is
same, than how can we expect the same mentality as our from others? Parents
complain against such activities because they think that it might add some impact on
their kid. They are not wrong.
RSS isn't wrong all the time friends. They do make some hurtful comments but it
doesn't even make it to the LS. But when we hate some one and start to preach it
everything falls out of its place.
Suggestion: Start reading History of India and than World history. Also the
constitution of India. As per History, there were so............. many cultures in our
country that dened India or better to say denes a country and give their own
identity. All we have left now is a handful things. Why is it so important to compare
India with other countries? Why compare? Don't just pick out everything the media
says. Have your own views. It feels so much better to not to be PARROT. If you think
something is wrong, cultivate your own thoughts.

Denitely they cant destroy India because India is much more than what they think. It
is much more politically and socially diverse than the countries which face civil
disorders. RSS, no doubt is doing good work but its only for the majority.
They believe that the only awless religion is Hinduism. Their action shows
their arrogance towards minorities. It is a bitter truth that RSS is involved in
most of the civil disorders which are latter claimed as an act of frenzied mob.
Their top brass leaders issue statements which are contrary to their so called
ideology of brotherhood. If they believe that post mughal era India was a
Hindu nation, no objection its their belief but how does it bother us now? Is
religious conversion a solution to the problems India face today?
People who take oath not to take any family responsibilities are asking
women to bear 4 children and for what? Just for overpowering minority
population? Will they ensure that all of them get adequate resources, jobs
and quality education?
I am not against RSS, I appreciate them for several things like pressurizing
government to reconsider its land law, and other works which are mentioned
in the above answers. But RSS should realize that minority community is like
a spring the more you press them the harder they hit u back and thats the
only reason behind a civil war. Its the result of their ideology that BJPs
Muslim score: 7 of 482 elded, no winners, despite the fact that muslims
are the deciding factor in 35 constituencies.And for a healthy society it is a
must that minority community gets adequate representation in law making.
And how can we forget that these RSS leaders believe that Nathuram Godse
did a good work assassinating Mahatma Gandhi(Is it an example of
patriotism?) and it is the same institution which during World War II openly
admired Adolf Hitler.
Conclusion:Any institution that brings religion out from

temples/mosques/churches, is a threat to national integration. RSS evidently and
comfortably cuts through this denition and hence is 'Bad' for India but can't destroy
it.

I have done my schooling from the Saraswati Vidhya Mandir from nursery class to
12th, and do you know what, I have learnt many of the lessons from my school and
some of them are patriotism, love for our nation, Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Isai, Aapas me
sab Bhai Bhai, respecting each other, manners, respect for our freedom ghters,
Army, mother tongue and most importantly UNITY. Everyday we used to sing our
national song. My school has always taught me that I AM INDIAN and till 4-5th
standard I didn't even know what is the dierence between Hindu and Muslim or any
other religion. And these schools are run by RSS. My grandfather has a connection
with RSS from very old time and from my birth, my grandpa only taught me to
respect our country, our mother tongue and to maintain INDIA's UNITY.
And after knowing this you still believe that this question is right, then i can't explain
more.
As Tapas Kant Tiwari said "If you could spare some time please do visit any Saraswati
Vidya Mandir School. Then you'll understand how they are contributing and what
they are contributing in making this country a better place." I quoted it again.

This is not true.RSS helps to build the nation,its core lies in Hindutva- meaning
nationalism, so RSS ideology lies in doing what is right for the nation..somehow I
don't know why but it is projected as extremist unit..it has produced great minds in
the past who have contributed to the nation's success,and is also currently involved in
the the constructive work...so the question of nation being destroyed is just futile..sit

Majority of people , who don't know what RSS is or what it does, get the wrong idea
because of media bias. unfortunately, the print and electronic media, which was
supposed to be unbiased and serve for the betterment of people, acts only for its own
TRP and revenue. So every sensational news that can stir a ruckus in the country gets
promoted and other things that does not necessarily create a furor are left as a
footnote.
RSS is an organization whose presence you can nd during each and every natural
calamity. During recent ood in Kashmir, they worked hand in hand with Indian
Army (Another great institution which deserves every bit of our appreciation and
gratitude but seldom receives the same ) to help the innumerable stranded people.
There is no recognition in their work, the volunteers don't get any prot out of it. It is
the sheer desire to help the nation what drives them forward. join any RSS " shakha"
in your locality and you will see, there is no bias, no politics.
As any big organization, there will be a few who will take a hardliner stance. RSS is
not an exception. So you should not see claims by a few people as a overall face of the
complete organization. RSS works for Indian unity, not its destruction.

Classroom intellectuals won't understand the RSS and its past and ongoing
contribution. Yes, it has elements which are just dumb idiots like any other large
organisations, but RSS in its core values is very valuable.
As far as destroying India is concerned, there are real people and real organisations
who are steadfastly working for that.. so if you can't get that, just give it a break.

Why do we ignore the good work done by RSS?

The ideology of RSS is "seless service to India".
It's a non-governmental, volunteer organization. They help the nation and its people
whenever in need be it J&K ood relief or Uttarakhand ood relief.
RSS teaches us to lead disciplined life and think of "India" as your family.
So, if you can't love them, Don't hate them and check the work done by RSS for this
nation.

I cannot say that the RSS hasn't contributed to social good within India. I'm also not
trying to say that there are no good people within the RSS. The only problem I see
with the RSS is, it is a religious Organisation. And the problem with a lot of these
religious organisations round the globe be it Hindu, Christian, Muslim etc., is that
somewhere beneath the surface of benevolence and good works lurks an ugly, evil
face of intolerance and insecurity concerning the thriving of other religions.
I've had a few friends who were part of the RSS and who passionately clung on to the
Hindutva ideology. In some of my discussions with these guys they've frequently
mentioned that an ideal India that they visualized was a "Hindu India". Now dear
reader, for a moment I want you to consider the Hindu minority in Pakistan. Won't
the Hindu minority in Pakistan fear total annihilation if and when they hear their
Muslim neighbors passionately visualizing a "Muslim only" Pakistan. Put yourself in
the shoes of the Muslims & the Christians who are at times bullied by Hindu extremist
groups in India. It's the same feeling that passes through the hearts of the bullied
minorities in both countries! A terried feeling of helplessness!
STAND UP FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES - Wasn't that
taught to us in school through amazing examples of Shivaji and Lincoln and many
other heroes in our history books? Isn't that how we'd like Indians to be portrayed
everywhere? Well, then BEGIN BY STANDING UP FOR YOUR BROTHER/SISTER
FROM ANOTHER RELIGION!!
You say it isn't as bad in India as it is in Pakistan, True! But it sure won't take us too
long as a nation to reach that stage(or even worse), if we let religious extremism rule
our hearts.
Consider the Sikhs slaughtered during the Sikh riots(1984). Consider the
Hindus/Sikhs, who were slaughtered in Pakistan when our country split(as well as
muslims who were slaughtered in India at the same time). Think of the terror that
lled their hearts during their last moments. Doesn't your heart ll with pity at the
thought of what each of these groups went through? They were all humans, though
they professed dierent faiths, they were all humans! Think of what must have
passed through the hearts of those defenseless nuns who were gangraped by
extremists. Think of those homosexuals at whom fundamentalist Christians threw
rocks at in the U.S. (I don't support homosexuality, but i believe in treating them as
humans). How awful!!!!
When will we learn that prosperity will only overtake us when we stop being
intolerant to fellow humans on the basis of religion/ethnicity/Skin color/sex.

Heaven in India - An India where all ethinic groups can live together in harmony
mutual respect, love and tolerance

Religion has claimed more lives on the planet than any other natural calamity or
nuclear weapon.

So yeah, getting back to the question, I really nd it hard to see any religious
organisation in a good or sympathetic light due the above reasons.
Note:I believe the RSS have directly and indirectly been involved in several cases of
religious violence both against Christians and Muslims, in India. However, I didn't
want my answer to revolve around a "Hate speech". Inspite of everything, I like to
believe that there is hope and that their hearts might still be touched.

This country where people watch as people die, and don't lift a nger. This country
where hunger and malnutrition remains the biggest issue. This country where
corruption is rampant, and even the dead bodies of our soldiers are not given proper

Hi, lately there have been a lot of discussions on topics on RSS and their views on
India and other religions - I am going to answer this question, but only from a point of
view as an individual Christian, these are my personal views and I cannot comment
for other religions or organizations (Christian or otherwise).

I have read some of the stories of what the RSS has done and I commend them
(relying solely on the testimony of others on this forum) - but I have personally have
not been witness to these or any other work they have done. This does not mean that
they did not do any works mentioned here.

However I have my reservations about the RSS actually helping in uniting Indians as
a country I have heard some of the comments (not speeches most are not available
not sure why, if someone has them please post a link) of people who belong to the
RSS (Praveen Togadia, Uma Bharati, Yogi Adityanath, etc) and I see these primarily as
hate speeches so where is the concept of all Indians are my brothers and sisters?

Because of speeches such as these, I see the RSS primarily as a Hindu organization
which discriminates Indians based on their religion and is looking at removing the
minorities from India. I have reservations on organization such as these as they do
threaten the very fabric of what India is and was built on equality and no state
religion a country for all people regardless of which religion we belong to.

Whats even more disturbing for me is that they are pushing religion to parliament in
the form of elected representatives if you see the past history there have been
disastrous consequences when this has happened - the Roman Catholic religion
mixed with politics in medieval Europe saw many people killed in the name of
religion, the Ku Klux Klan in the US, the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the ISIS
in the middle east presently all started o with religious ideologies for the majority
of the community but then all were interested in only political power and ultimately
ended up killing, murdering people in the name of religion and sadly the women
and children are the worst who suer in these conditions. On one hand these are
supposed to be holy people, but its the same people who praise God on one hand and
say unholy things on another. Imagine what would happen if we had Priests and
Mullahs also there tomorrow. Ideally they should be in Temples, Churches and
Mosques preaching the word of God to their respective communities and leading
them in a spiritual path.

But the counter argument is, they oppose conversions the Christian missionaries do
I know this is a question which will come up and I want to address this.

I will put this as simply as I can - Christian missionaries have 2 objectives one to
help the poor (education, healthcare etc) and spread the word of Jesus to every
nation. So, when they do help people they are also spreading the word of Jesus and
its the people who convert by choice its their choice and they alone can make it
no one can force you to convert. They are inuenced by the love and charity shown to
them and at times opt to adopt the Christian faith.

If you go to see, most of the missionary schools and hospitals have been started in
remote places and are almost a 100 yrs old imagine what would be the plight of
these areas at that time no electricity, water, amenities etc and these have been
started by families going out to the community and staying there.

Another argument would be why are the missionaries not just doing the good work
why do they need to convert these poor people? I would counter this question by
asking why arent we taking care of our own? Are we a poor country that we cannot
take care of our people? Why do the poor go to these people for food, clothes, shelter if
the government is providing the same?

I have already faced a lot of abuses in the past for my views and I know I will face
these again, but I hope we can actually have some meaningful debates on these
matters happy to take any questions.

Just for the record I am a Christian married to a Hindu we both follow our own
religions we discuss and argue at times, but at the end of the day, we are good
always.

We as society will have enough wit to stop any organization from destroying our
country, is what I would like to believe.
Regarding RSS:
Pros:
- Very well connected at ground level. Is always ready to help in case of any calamities
etc. Is ready to invest time and energy to establish trust among people
- Has a very strong networking with youngsters in form of student NGOs etc. Hence
also has power to inuence youngsters
- Overall passion towards organizational objectives is very high. Every one works out
of choice and not out of compulsion. people invest time, creativity and money
willingly.
Cons:
- Inclusion is missing. Glamorizes one religion, one school of though over others.
- Molding facts to support it's own theories. Investing too much to justify past.
- Inexible to change it's outlook towards certain subjects which might not be very
fairly dealt in old times also. Like freedom to marry outside own religion/ cast etc.
- Low tolerance towards people/ school of thought which does not suit it's own
organizational beliefs.
I've met people who were mean, double standard, orthodox but as someone has
rightly mentioned, stupid people exist everywhere. They do not reect an entire
organization.
As a Hindu, I grew up hearing very strong thoughts on how Gandi ji disrespected his
wife and had many other shortcomings, how only Hindus are originals of this nation
and other are not, how Indian Hindus were number one in technology etc. I think
adults around me who propagated these thoughts without investing time to validate
were more to blame that organizations which might have started these theories basis
their agenda.

YES. Thing is they don't have word like India in their dictionary. Its always Bharat. As
one user correctly pointed out, despite doing good volunteer work, they remain a
Hindu group. A group which thinks Hindutva is the only way of saving India. And

brainwashes people. Also think about how they ban movies, snoop around in parks
and marry couples. So yes its an extremly controversial organization.
Its nice that they do good volunteering work, but see thats the bait with which they
want to hook you in. Based on simple philosophy that people feel good when they do
hard work. Its quick, result oriented and doesn't require much brain storming.
So if they say they are against other terrorist organizations like Shiv Sena, Bajrang
Dal, Ram Sena; then I wait for the day RSS stands against them. And friend, that
would require courage. And thats the day I would support RSS too. Till that time let

When I was a teenager, I came across some literature published by the RSS. I was
deeply moved by dedication of the organization to the nation.
I have now come to understand the circumstances of the genesis of the organization.
Born at the height of divide & rule, Muslims being given separate electorates, personal
laws and other privileges and rising pitch for partition not to mention the possibility
of British departure looming on the horizon and potential future Muslim domination.
RSSs reaction to this threat manifests itself in form of opposition to Muslim League
agenda but as two parallel threads. One denes Hindus, inclusively, as one people
irrespective of religion and calls for Akhand Bharat. The other denes India as a
Hindu nation (as opposed to Muslim Pakistan) which many believe to be a
supremacist idea.
Under the circumstances, this reaction was not only inevitable but also justiable.
Muslims are seen as one people, dedicated to one God, praying from one book,
following one prophet, speaking one language (all of this is only partially true, but
only supercially it looks like that). Hindus are seen as divided by class, caste, sect,
language, multiple scriptures, multiple gods.
While attributes of the Muslim is seen to give him strength, those of the Hindu is seen
to make him weak.
If only Hindus pray to Shri Ram, follow the Bhagvath Gita, speak Sanskrit The
Hindu would not only be able to stand up to the Muslim but also give a betting reply.
This is the kind of understanding you would get if there was a book called
"Understand India in 30 days.
In reality, the apparent weakness of Hinduism is actually its strength. It provides the
framework to accommodate a very diverse population without conict. If Hinduism
was really that weak, India would have become a Philippines long ago.
On the other hand, looking at the Muslim world today, Islam doesn't seem to have any
exibility to adapt to changing times or accommodate dierent religious doctrines or
sects.
The Indian is too individualistic, too independent for any kind of social engineering
to succeed. Damn, he doesn't even follow trac rules for his own good.
The threat of Muslim domination passed for good in 1947. The nation has adopted a
progressive constitution. It is time to move on.
The RSS should appropriate Modis agenda of national development and abandon
politics of religion and identity.
That members of RSS are truly patriotic is beyond question.But periodic reappraisal
and reformation of ideology is a must. Otherwise, you run the risk of ending up just

No, India is too strong.

I am not writing a long answer as what is the fucking use since it would be down-
voted but one should not be a complete asshole while analysing a situation.
RSS has done a lot for India apparently. The people who say so honestly have no
fucking idea how much the Indian Union has done for its people no matter how
shoddy it has been in execution of its plans. Right wing lunacy doesn't get you out of
abject poverty, governance does and India is OK at that. Take RSS out of the equation
and the only problem you would have is the lack of balance against the evil of muslim
fundamentalists who too BTW are colossal assholes. Ask yourself if the RSS
contribution is more that 0.005% of anything constructive India does. It would come
out way less that that and you would settle for those losses at the cost of your national
integrity. You cannot have vigilante organisations claiming validity of their
superiority just because they help when there is a void. The void is that of governance
and should not be there and with hard work and patience. The RSS cannot get away
with challenging India's democratic values just because it helps from time to time. No
one is above India. No one. And India is dened by its institutions and humanity. Not
by its stupidity and ideology.
One should not serve their country as they want to but as they are needed to. Spare a
thought for the soldier defending us. What if he looks back at this scum and thinks,
whats the point? He doesn't because he is bound by duty of protecting the citizens of
India and not to tame them under a shitty piece of ideological paranoia. Don't go to a

I was part of RSS when I was growing up and I cant think of a better way of learning
Indian culture. They were open to all religions and had a lot of bonding activities.
The structure was like a civil version of army unit with the Leader and followers. It
taught us patriotism, to work together for the country and treat each other with
respect.
I also remember they had a small book of Sanskrit verses which introduced me to a lot
of intricate stories of India - the rivers, mountains, mythical men and women etc. not
to mention the self defense lessons using a stick.
It is integral in building a future India and if you hear something from one of the
leaders, study the history of India and you will nd they are factually true.

Try to go "shakha" (Welcome to Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh ) at early morning (

nearly 6:00 AM) whenever you get time for once.You can nd them in any nearby
park/play ground to your house. There you will nd seless and true friends.

To all those people who are busy depicting the good,nationalistic deeds of RSS I just

Werent Nazis nationalist and did not they do wonders for Germany ? Hitler was a

If they dont stick to being a social organisation, they will be bad for India. But alas, we
might all be blinded by all the sob stories being told here about its work in the eld of
social services, but the venom of RSS is more visible in political arena.
Its not a ''nationalist'' organisation as many would like to project in India but it is a

I think RSS started as a social organization, but has gone communal in the recent
past. Reading all those social contributions that RSS has made in emergency
situations leaves me with a lot of respect for them. Honestly, I was not aware that they
do such things.
However, what I am concerned about this organization is the extreme polarization

that they indulge in. I believe Hindutva as a concept is something to be practiced
individually, on a personal level. Then, may be on a community level. It cannot be
extended to our country. Hindutva cannot be forced onto others.
Agreed we have had invaders who plundered this country, but that is all in the past.
Now, each of us are an integral part of this country. RSS sadly is trying to sow seeds of
hatred and that can only lead to destabilize our country.
I believe all organizations that polarize people based on religion should not be given
importance. They should be left to the fringes of our society where they best belong.
They should never be brought to the centrestage. If that happens, it will only lead to
conict, de stabilization and unrest.

First of all I request all SPIs (Self Proclaimed Intellectuals with Notication
Subscription turned on for Apps like NDTV, Times Of India etc) to dierentiate between
RSS and other autonomous organizations like Hindu Maha Sabha, Bajrang Dal, Shiv
Sena etc. RSS is NOT associated by them and DO NOT Represent them. Only thing
common among them is 'Hinduism'.
Please do visit RSS ocial Website Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to really see what
RSS is at ocial level. Please do not judge website through the bad HTML/CSS but
rather than go through its textual content. Have we forget that CMs of so many states
along with PM now is from same RSS only?
RSS does more social work than collectively by all other Indian/ Foreign NGO's. E.g

RSS never collected money for purpose and NEVER asks any given person to leave
their religion as returning favor. As far as mother Teresa is concerned then please
Google YouTube for various documentaries. I am not discrediting her's entire career
of charity but its essential see the essence of persuading evangelism in her most acts.
Why most NGOs spokes person are against RSS:-
Ok I'm taking u little bit out of context from main topic here but for complete
understanding below argument is also required. Please spare some minutes for
understanding the root case of major issues and then I'll revert back to the main topic.
According to a recent report in Feb,2015 High Court says that 99% NGOs are fraud -

Most NGOs are inclined on political destabilization of country funded by MNCs.
Yes I agree that there are good NGOs as well but majority of them are use for
manipulating the political vibes of a country. Please see two videos by RAW Ocer
RSN Singh who is severely disliked by AAP Fans but believe me most AAP and
Congress Fans have nothing in proof against RSN Singh except the the two famous
argument tricks like RSN is paid agent of BJP and is opportunist (they also said
recently for Kiran Bedi !).

The worst part is that there is NO direct proof of any foreign remittance now as
donation is now routed through various Indian donors on commission basis i.e they
keep 1-5% of the amount and give rest of money in cash to parties/NGOs who further
pay ahead in forms of volunteers salaries, advertisement hoardings etc. MNCs know
that now they can be monitored if they provide direct HUGE funds to beneciaries so
this is the new way of funds transfer.
All Politics parties(yes even BJP/Congress) and NGOs will get 100% clearances
from MHA if they will be probed for 'Transactional Level' cleanness. Ask any CA,
he'll tell you that no whether a political party, NGO, Company (proprietorship or
group) CANNOT survive for more than 1 years without Transaction Level cleanness!
Only possible solution is that any party who claims to be Corruption free, Honest and
clean (like AAP/AVAM etc recently) should le PIL against Major Political Parties like
BJP and Congress for form a SIT probing the 'Fake Indian Donors' rather than Fake
Funding sources. Will that do EVER :) ask this question from yourself whether you are
a AAP's Ideology Supporter or BJP's Ideology Supporter.

between Hinduism as a religion and as a culture e.g even Pakistan is 'culturally' a
Hindu Mentality nation, even their marriage style, general day life styles most
Indian ways are followed!).

religion, its a culture with Atheism, Formless Worship ALSO one of its subsidiary
ways of practicing Hinduism. Idol worship is a argument in another context but if

Recently Muslims Clerics ASKED 6 Questions from RSS. However RSS will not
answer that for political reasons but its one of the answers is given by one of the old
and strong supporters of RSS named Kiran KS.

The person who has posted this question is oblivious of RSS' contribution towards the
nation in various ways:
1. They played an important role in the liberation of Goa and Dadra and Nagar
Haveli from Portuguese Rule in the 1960's.
2. RSS had done exemplenary voluntary work during India-China War of 1962
which was appreciated by Nehru himself by allowing them to take part in the
Republic Day parade of 1963.
3. During 1965 India-Pakistan war Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri
requested RSS cadres to help control trac in Delhi, so policemen could be
freed for defense duties.On the close of the war General Kushwant Singh of
Indian Army thanked the RSS for their relief and support work for the army
and nation.
4. Later in 1971 Indo-Pak war also, the RSS volunteers oered their services to
maintain law and order of the country and were apparently the rst to donate
blood.
5. They fought tooth and nail against Indira Gandhi's administration regarding
Emergency during 1975-1977 and helped in upholding the spirit of
democracy at the time when so called supporters of democracy like Mother
Teresa, Khushwant Singh,Vinoba Bhave, TOI, The Hindu, etc supported
the dreaded suspension of fundamental rights under the Emergency. In fact,
the The Economist magazine, a famous British magazine described the
movement as "the only non-left revolutionary force in the world", stating
that the movement was "dominated by tens of thousands of RSS cadres,
though more and more young recruits are coming" and the main
objective of this movement is to bring democracy in India.
6. They protected numerous lives of Sikhs in Delhi and other places in India
from murderous Congress goons during Anti-Sikh riots in 1984 after Indira
Gandhi's assassination.
7. They were instrumental in relief eorts after the 1971 Orissa Cyclone , 1977
Andhra Pradesh Cyclone and in Bhopal gas tragedy, 1984 .It assisted in
relief eorts during the 2001 Gujarat earthquake , and helped rebuild
villages.Approximately 35,000 RSS members in uniform were engaged in the
relief eorts, and many of their critics acknowledged their role.An RSS-
aliated NGO, Seva Bharati , conducted relief operations in the aftermath
of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake . Activities included building shelters
for the victims, providing food, clothes and medical necessities.The RSS
assisted relief eorts during the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and
the subsequent tsunami. It also adopted 57 children (38 Muslims and 19
Hindus) from militancy aected areas of Jammu and Kashmir to provide
them education at least up to Higher Secondary level.They have also taken
care of victims of the Kargil War of 1999. Recently,they were active in
providing ood-relief works through its oces set up at various aected
areas during Uttarakhand oods in 2013.
8. At the time of partition of India when millions of Hindus and Sikhs ed

Pakistan to nd refuge in India, the RSS played an active role in helping
these people. The RSS arranged for food, medicines, shelter, tents etc.During
partition it was the RSS that helped organise over 3,000 relief camps for the
refugees from Pakistan. Their contribution in the rehabilitation of partition-
aected people as well as protecting the Jawaharlal Nehru government from
possible coup of Muslim League was praised by none other than Bharat
Ratna awardee and freedom ghter, Bhagwan Das
9. In 1996 a Saudi Arabian Boeing 747 collided in mid air with a KazKh cargo
plane killing nearly 400 passengers, mostly Muslims. Dead body parts were
scattered over a large area west of Delhi over Charkhi Dadri villages. No
NGOs, Red Cross or government agencies came forward. It was hundreds of
RSS swayamsevaks who tirelessly gathered these bodies or body parts and
gave them a respectable burial according to the Islamic rites. (Credit to Cdr

You can better understand RSS by reading their prayer(namaste sada vatsale
matrubhume) and EKATMATHA STOTRAM. RSS conducting single teacher schools
in tribal areas and Saraswathi Sisumandirs in other areas. SEVA BHARATHI is a
largest social servicing organisation.Its work includes, literacy,health,sanitation,self
employment etc..The great freedom ghter JAYA PRAKASH NARAYAN said that RSS
means Ready for Seless Service. NEHRU invited RSS to participate in REPUBLIC
DAY PARADE after their services in indo china war.......NARENDRA MODI , A.B
