Similarities and differences between Aldehyde and Ketone

Aldehyde is different from ketone in many ways, but there are many
things that are similar. Aldehyde and ketone are the examples of carbonyl
compounds found in the wild. Aldehyde is similar to ketone because they have
many benefits. Not only aldehyde but also ketoneis very reactive. Aldehyde and
ketone have peculiar odor. Both aldehyde and keton can form hydrogen bond
between molecules. Aldehyde and ketone are similar because they have neutral
properties. Aldehyde is very easily oxidized, while ketone is difficult to be
oxidized. Compared with ketone, aldehyde oxidized will yield carboxylic with
the same number of atoms. Aldehyde is known with the formula RCHO, but
ketone has two alkyl groups attached to carbonyl carbon with the formula
RCOR. Aldehyde has 1,24 A the C=O bond length as ketone does.
Aldehyde, like ketone, has a low molecular weight soluble in water like
alcohol due to its ability to form hydrogen bond. Aldehyde and ketone cannot
form hydrogen bonds with each other causes the boiling point lower than
alcohol. Aldehyde and ketone are alike in detecting the presence of them by the
analysis with some test like the use of tollens test;on the other hand, tollens test
is one way in which complex ions of silver, ammonia is easily reduced by
aldehyde into the metal silver. Ketone differs from aldehyde because it can be
oxidized by reaction state harder. Compared with aldehyde, ketone has no
hydrogen atom attached to the carbonyl.

aldehyde is different from ketone because it is easy to be oxidized. On the

other hand, some test use properties of the ease of oxidation to distinguish
ketone and aldehyde. Aldehyde , like ketone, has a boiling point of intermediate
hydrogen bond compound and non polar compound. Aldehyde and ketone are
alike in that they form liquid with a boiling point increasing when the molecule
is larger. Aldehyde and ketone are dissimilar because aldehydes boiling point is
lower than ketone. Although aldehyde and ketone are soluble in water freely, its
solubility decreases as the value added chain length. Aldehyde are the same as
ketone in that they have dispersion force and dipole-dipole attraction force
water molecule.
