Workshop

Pupils: groups of 3, class of 24 used as example.


Kit: Tackle pads.
Organise pupils into groups of 6
o There should be 4 groups.
o Two groups will play, one will coach/referee and the last will do
the workshop.
o Groups should rotate.
Whilst the groups are playing a small game of touch rugby, (no
tackles as this cant be properly supervised), the teacher should
position themselves as to still see the groups and their workshop
group.
In the workshop the teacher should discuss the health and safety of
being in a scrum, the roles of each player (found in position and
roles), the calls of crouch, bind, set, and what to do.
Use the resource cards as necessary.
Pupils practice binding as a three.
Once happy with the progress this team would sub in for the other
team.
Progressions:
Introduce hooking for the ball.
Practice binding to the other team and hooking for the ball.
Introduce scrums into the games, with the nearest three players.
Regression:
Start the bind in a kneeling position.
