Problem: The stick diagram of a 6-speed FWD automatic transmission and the clutch engagement
are shown in the drawing. The final drive ratio is 2.94. The tire radius is 11. The vehicle front
projected area is 21 ft2 and the air drag coefficient is 0.30. The vehicle weight is 3100 lb. The
rolling resistance coefficient is 0.02 and the transmission efficiency is 0.92.

a) Determine the transmission ratios for the six forward speeds and the reverse speed.
b) Determine the reaction torque in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th and reverse gear respectively in
terms of the transmission input torque T.
c) The car is being driven at a speed of 25 mph with an acceleration of 2 ft/s2 on a 2% slope
in the 2nd gear. Determine the reaction torque in clutch C and clutch E respectively.
d) The transmission is making a 4-5 upshift. During the shift process, the sensors of the
control system measure a vehicle speed of 45 mph and a transmission input speed of
2400 RPM. Determine the relative angular velocity in clutch B and E respectively.
