India is well positioned to emerge as a credible security and
economic partner of the UAE and the larger Gulf region in the
current geo-political environment.

Aug 2015 - Modi visit to UAE


India-UAE joint statement - unveils "Look West Policy";
relationship elevated to the level of comprehensive strategic
partnership; joint military exercises; greater security
cooperation. Modi's speeches against state-sponsored or
supported cross-border terrorism; shows the implicit
endorsement of UAE against such kind of terrorism;
implicitly indicts Pakistan.

Joint statement:
Important articulation of a significant shift in the Arab
worlds view of India. G2G; B2B; P2P. Commits the UAE
to a sharp increase in its investment in India. Shared
past; shared challenges in the present; shared future.
Reference to the growing congruence of thinking on vital
security issues especially cross-border terrorism.

Feb 2016 - Crown Prince of UAE visits India


Agreements - currency swap, culture, investments in infra,
renewable energy, space research, cyber security (to counter
terror), skill development, commercial information sharing;
MoU on access to Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF) failed to
materialise; India trying hard. They want more reforms.

Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was the chief guest at the Republic
Day Parade in 2017. Defence and security partnership is the new
driver for ties between the two governments. Joint statement
contained strong words on "state-sponsored terror". This shows
UAE shares India's frustration on cross-border terrorism from
Pakistan. Agreement on comprehensive strategic partnership.
