Green Reading Tutorial

Arrows
The arrows point directly downhill. A ball should roll in the direction of the arrow
unless it is aected by wind or grain.

Numbers
The slope percentage of that area of the green, or more specifically, each arrow
that corresponds to a slope percentage

Contours
The information that determines the slope. The closer these thin grey lines are to
one another, the more slope there is.

Grid
One yard spaces that allow you to figure out where you are on green,
cover distances, etc.
What you need to know
1 Nothing replaces your instinct, feel, and overall confidence. If youre reading this,
chances are high that youre already pretty good. This is an extra information source
with a high level of science behind it.

You dont need to know AimPoint to understand this. Just disregard the numbers completely
II and look at where the arrows are pointing. Its just like following directions in your car.

This should actually speed up pace of play, because once you look at the book, you
III should understand what the putt is doing. Once you get the hang of it, youll find your confidence
grows standing over those tricky ones.

If you do use AimPoint, use this information to replace or confirm what your slope numbers are.
IV Look for the midpoint, or where you would normally be reading with your feet and just use your
book/pinsheet instead.
Holding book correctly is important!
Match how the green sits on your line to the hole.

=hole location =your ball

Green arrows = likely areas for pins with
greens 11+ stimp-better practice round
preparation. This green for example you can see
theres only 2 areas that you would need to practice in
and to.

Other Uses
Approach Shots
-How much will the shot release pitching?
-Better idea of where you want to be
-Where is the best miss?
-Reading the line of chip shots
-Which side is best to putt from?

better understand how to feed
balls into certain hole locations
